Because the MRI showed nothing, and MRIs are extremely sensitive to picking up everything, even things that don't necessarily hurt. That's a niggle-- a type of pain that you can train through, maybe back off a bit/rest, and it will go away quickly.

Every coach has seen these, and I had a couple myself. A calf strain that causes you to take a couple of weeks off is something that makes it painful to walk on when it starts. There is no question: You KNOW. If she had one of those, the MRI would show it.
If you had a little pain that doesn't show up on MRI (I guess like Rupp in that one race), an honest coach would inform USATF to make sure the alternate is ready and then go to the race, at least do a pre-meet session, and see how it goes.
This, combined with Ritz pulling, and no appearances at all from Centro, makes me even more suspicious than before.
It simply doesn't add up technically.

hey dummy, leer didnt bail on the 5k for no reason. his foot got messed up in that 1500 and he reportedly could hardly walk on it the next day

Runners get injured all the time. Hell, I'm injured now. Rupp is the exception people. Most other runners deal with injuries.

Rupp, Lagat, and Symmonds are known for being healthy. The others have all had their share of setbacks. Some so bad it ended their careers. That's like 10 out of 13 who have had major injuries.
99 percent of great runners get injured. Some get injured almost yearly. I imagine running in Ny in the winter will increase the chance of injury along with the risky act of sharpening speedwork....brojos, this entire website is turning into nothing more than childish, rumor mongering about drugs. The drug poll was about the last straw. How unjust to have a name dragged through the mud with no evidence. Didn't one of the brojos make a great improvement in the 10k....if this site was around then you would have been called out.
Just making a casual observation here, but does anyone else see a possible split from Al Sal in the near future? Think about it, after the usatf disaster, Cain's parents are thinking "wait a minute" let's step back here and figure out if al Sal is the best coach for their 17 year old daughter.

I'll trust Salazar's judgement on this. Solinsky ran one great race and then his body fell apart. Goucher, Ritz, and Webb have all spent their entire careers showing moments of brilliance sprinkled amongst years of underperformance. Under Salazar, Rupp has been one of the very few American runners to steadily improve year after year with no major setbacks.
I'd rather be a sissy in yor eyes than another American who pissed away a career due to impatience. Cain has many years ahead of her. If she can patiently and steadily improve, she'll have plenty of opportunities to compete and medal on bigger stages than world indoor.

I think Salazar is smart, but it's not like his runners haven't gotten injured. It's just that his great runners haven't gotten injured (Rupp / Farah) until Cain, and that's really a chicken or the egg situation for you.
Ritzenhein has been no less injury-prone under Salazar than he was under Wetmore or Hudson. I haven't seen much to suggest other coaches are just 'tards injuring their athletes and Sal is a medicine man.
Best coach in the country all-around is still Wetmore, no doubt.

One great race? How about the slew of sub 13 minute 5ks he ran that season? Plus, unlike Rupp, Solinsky's 10k was in at a collegiate meet, not a European race, was his debut, and was not paced to go sub 27.
Solinsky has only had one year of under performance: 2013. I'm sure that most elites who've had the same coach for the past 16 years would be performing magnificently. It's funny that even with his own private coach he has never been the very best American in the 5k. He has to run up to the least competitive event on the track, the 10k, to be a competitor.

except that she isn't injured. did you even bother to read that the mri came back clean? tears/strains/pulls/etc all show up on an mri. why do you feel the need to comment when you clearly have no idea what is going on?
Gee, for the "world's best coach" Salazar is really, really bad at getting athletes to the starting line if their goal races.
Moser: DNS worlds last year.
Centro: erratic last outdoors, no races this year indoors.
Cain: burned out or "discomfort" days before Salazar's stated target meet.
