There are no Oregon HS runners at the University of Oregon

This guy is very confused. He thinks because his buddy was a very good high school runner he should automatically be on the varsity for one of the top 5 programs in the country.

UO doesn't owe him a roster spot, although he earned one, and they certainly don't owe him a varsity spot.

You guys are into some deep stuff about monetary allocations,which there is some merit. I will say, the only way Oregon is getting these out of staters is with money in the form of athletic/financial grants because out of state tuition is costly compared to instate. So, the instaters do suffer monetarliy compared to out ofstaters, and incur federal loans..etc. The 12.5 scholarships are spread out over 65 athletes(men's)track roster,which if shared equally is about $3600 per guy. However, out of staters get a double share, some if like a Cheserek/Jenkins may get a triple share, which means the insaters get cheaped or get nothing, cause there tuition is much less...As for Watson, he earned his right to run at Oregon. Small 3A school, his 3:50 1500 time was the #1 time in the nation his senior year, which he ran at Hayward againt a B college field. A 1:52 800 mark also. Ran in Junior Nat'l competition his Jr/Sr years as well. He has had presentable cross seasons, running as the #4-6 spot the last 2 years, and tanked in the regionals in Seattle, only race he did that last 2 years. As for track, trying to convert him to a steeplechase runner has been a serious coaching mistake, thus no performance there. needs to go back to the mile/800 regimine,that's what got him there.

Look at the University of Illinois. They have tried to recruit the top runner from the state for the past 3 decades and have never succeeded. Their roster is full of in-state runners; but Sage, Torres, Derrick, Jager and on and on went out of state for college. It is in fact a rare occurrence that the U of I has gotten even the 3rd or 4th most recruited runner during this period. Yet we complain when Oregon doesn't have enough Oregon runners on their team.

Travis Neuman. 2 time 5a xc state champ. He was the 3rd duck yesterday at the Bill Dellinger Invite after red-shirting last year.

UO and two other non-academic schools of the PAC-12 are focused solely on sports the same as any non-academic NCAA Division I school. Thus, UO has to take the best preps from the nation. The State of Oregon typically has an average crop of good D-I preps. The State of Oregon will never be like the State of Washington, known as the Rift Valley of USA Running.
