Magness 3:53 1500 is just 3 seconds off the Women's world record. Maybe Magness should get a wig.

You are a total jerk annoying bastard.
NOT NICE

And what's your 1500 time, hotshot?
Usher I know you are Steve. I am sorry if I offended you.
Fuck all these assholes Magness. You got the skillz to pay the billz.
Hes' got the skillz to pay the billz?
Oh, you mean his 3:53 1500 or his non national cross country apearance.
Give Magness time. Most elite US distance runners don't reach their peak until they are in their mid to late 20s. I am sure by the time Magness is 28 he will be a soid 3:55 miler like Jason Lunn is today.
The changes of anyone in the general population running a 3:55 mile is probably a 1 in 5,500,000 shot.
Last year the US had 5 active 3:55 milers. There are 280,000,000 Americans. You do the math. Jason Lunn was the only American to actually run a sub 3:55 mile last year (3:54.88). So out of 28 million people Lunn was the only 3:55 miler in the entire country!
Last year both Robison and Krummenacker were the fastest metric milers at 3:35. They are currently the only US runners with the Olympic 1500-meter A standard. In short they probably run the equivalent of a 3:53.20 mile.
Countries with the most sub 4 milers 2003.
Kenya - 14
USA - 12
He was one place off. Also, when I was down visiting Rice he was just an all around good guy. I ran a fairly poor and unimpressive workout while I was there but Steve still asked about my training and was nothing but encouraging.
100!
Post 100! Another Letsrun shirt for me!
Magness was the 2003 Letsrun PR Challenge Winner. I owe him a beer.
Glad to see that the future of US distance running looks so bright with so many up and comers!
However Steve's like in person, he's right about why no one posts here. You are pathetic.
Aww..SEE... I'm too old for this board... didn't even get my 100th post (or t-shirt).
Centarian, you suck! (Letsrun-speak for "I just wish I could be you")
OK anyway no one answered my question, which skillz pays his bills.........his 3:53 1500 or his non national cross country appearance
Bottom line, Rice sucks and so does the coach, shitty choice to run there if he wants to do as well as other top college guys.
Usher I know you are Steve. I am sorry if I offended you >>
Annoying Bastard, you're not as annoying as you think you are. I'm a nearly-50-year old with arthritic knees who might be able to run a 6-minute mile if chased by a slow cop, and you've confused me with a 4:01 miler. Best complement I've had in a long time.
Steve, you're a fine example of what's right with this great sport. Hang in there. Don't let the bastards win.
WHere is Steve?
Is he running Texas Relays, or is he wating for a bigger meet to run at, or did his time not get in Texas Relays?
He is on line at Rice surfing on dyestat right now.
I noticed some advocacy towards Erik Stanley earlier on. Yeah, he just ran a 4:25 full mile at Texas Relays. That would be 20 seconds slower than this time last year. If you guys want to be completely incompetent in the first place and suggest an affectedness to how fast other people run, than you should be bashing Erik Stanley, I'd say. He's at -20 seconds P.R. while Steve is only -11 or so.
Bash on eric Stanley?????
Why, he is in highschool with probably shit training and is an all around nice guy, deffinatly not cocky, why would anyone want to bash on someone like that.
Yeah! What's up with Erik Stanley? Doesn't he know the rules? Once you become fast enough to get talked about, you're not entitled to any bad races. You owe it to everyone (especially people who don't have your talent) to live up to expectations in every race you run, or else you're a worthless tub of goo who is the direct cause of America's distance running woes. Not only that, but one bad race negates every good race you've ever had!
Along those lines, nobody's mentioned this guy: Leonel Manzano, who ran 4:06.29 to win the Texas Relays 1,600 last year, got a right thumping this year as he Meat Loafed, John Belushied and David Crosbyed his way to an anemic 4:23.99 mile. Maybe those extra 9+ meters were too much for him.
Let's all bash that guy. C'mon, everybody! You know the words!
Loser! Loser! Loser!
Wait, wait. In accordance with the customary message board spelling of the word, that should be "looser".
Looser! Looser! Looser!
There. I feel so much better now about that 5:10 mile I ran last week.
Jon Gill ran a 4:17 1500.
He rules!
