Not gonna happen. Registration means we lose a lot of the morons, which means the site gets less hits, and less $$ gets paid to the BroJos. They're kind of like Larry Flynt... happy to keep it nasty and get paid, rather than go high class like Playboy.

And to those who are compare these times to his HS times, it's irrelevant. Tons of world class guys would be hard-pressed to run a 3:41 after what Webb's been through. I think he's setting himself up well to be in 3:32 shape for 2012, maybe even better. That's the whole point of what he's doing. He's two years away from needing to be completely fit, so it's less about running faster than he did in HS and more about progressing each time he goes out. If he runs a 3:37 (as Sally predicts) and has a good showing at 5th ave., it would be a successful mini season for sure. Wheating was running 3:37s in B-class fields only months before running a 3:30. We're only asking Webb to do that in 2 years.
You nut lickers are forgetting that this kid is a head case. He is what Tiger Woods has become. He can follow up a good performance with a disaster.
Webb will go down in flames. Just like he always has.

I think the other poster who said the people bashing Webb for running 1:52 are not the same group that are happy he's on the comeback trail.
I, for one stated after the 1:52 that he could probably run a 3:55 mile in the near future. He seems to be getting close to that now. Nobody here seems to be acting like the 3:41 is earth shattering, but when you combine that with the 5K double, it is a clear sign that he is healthy and coming back.
The only idiots are the one's that read too much into his 1:52.
It must be so uncomfortable for Webb to talk about his training. I remember in an interview on flotrack which I think was before the Prefontaine classic in 2008 that he was asked about how his training and work outs have been going, and he smiled/laughed at the comment but also refused to answer.
He's never been the type to say how his training has been going. Meanwhile, everyone in Oregon talks about what they've been doing with training all the time (Ritz, Solinsky, Rupp, etc) down to what their repeats are. I think before the change of coaches the only real result of training the public knew of Alan Webb was the 2:48 1200m time trial he did back in 2008.
Is this good for Webb? Now all his speedwork is being revealed (think of all the workouts we've heard him do in just the past two months), and he's doing so many interviews. Definitely a complete change in both his training and his behavior from when he was with his previous coach.
has anyone watched webb's post race interview? at about 2:00 minutes in they show him running the 15 and does he look awesome kicking away from the two competitors. I don't care what the final time was or who he really raced against but that kick on the final turn sure as hell looked a lot like new york when he crushed lagat. you don't have that change of acceleration without being "back." the second place finsisher never had a chance and webb's kick, to me, indicates he could have time trialed a 3:38-3:39 without much problem. THEN to do a "tempo" run 5k in 14:15??????? Seriously, really, some of you think he is done? When he runs 3:36 and 3:51-3:53 for the 5th avenue, what then?
I think webb has his goal back and the coach and group to get him there. Remember, in 2007 he said 1 second a year gets him to 3:42 and what better year to go for the WR than in a WC preping for 2012. Yes, that is correct, Webb will be in the sub 3:45 arena next year for the mile. Everyone call me, or him out, at your own peril.
Yeah, this is the smoothest Webb has looked in a very long time.
I also noticed this in the 5000 clip. He said he was a bit tired towards the end, but he was running extremely smooth. That choppy stride that he had 2 years ago has disappeared.

I have watched him run since 9th grade, and have seen him train often.
I was negative over his 1:52 performance. This was not because he ran 1:52 - rust busters after injury are expected. No, I was negative because he again did not seem to enjoy what he was doing and was not racing in any real sense of the word, including Alan's own.
This Antwerp race proved me wrong. I was rushing to judgment. The time here is misleading. But of course in a good sense. He is a better runner than the 2nd placer, albeit likely not as fit in a relative sense. So what did he do? He raced, was patient, and really kicked it home. That had to feel good. Does one race mean a comeback? No. But it does reflect that Salazar has Webb concerned about the process, rather than the result. Webb is so talented, the results will speak for themselves over time. This was a nice race to observe.
Boy looks lighter, smoother, better knee lift/hip extension. Race was windy, but he was drafting most of the way. I'd say 3:38 in ideal conditions. If the season was another month, he could scare 3:35-ish.
That was a beautiful, well executed race. His stride looked smooth and controlled, and he shifted gears so well in that last 100, you almost forget that Webb has hardly run since 2008. As all the interviews and a lot of the posts allude, Alan is an incredible talent, but his tragic shortcoming was the mental burden that came with his talent. Over-training, over-thinking, and over-reacting could have ended his career. Would anyone have blamed him for walking away?
Yet here comes Alan Webb again, and frankly, I'm pulling for him. Who says track is boring, that it doesn't have drama? Succeed or fail--this is compelling, good for the sport, and we need more of it!

Instead of shutting down the boards, why not make it like an actual forum and require users to register and make a profile of some sort? It wouldn't solve everything, but it would obviously cut down on the crap.

How do you know that it was a mental burden? seriously, why do so many people think that webb has head issues? could it not just have been unfortunate injuries like goucher and ritz?
