i dont think he has the wheels for the 5k record, but the other one is doable for him. Nice job predicting the 10k CR, a lot of people eating crow in this thread.

27:23 but not 13:12?
Dude may not even try a fast 5k tho.
It sure is quiet in this thread today.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.................
Looks like he would have 13:05-13:08 this year , with some pacing. What is the 13.1 Canadian record? He might have 5 Canadian records by years end.
Quiet because you waited from 11:30 at night to 8 a.m. when everyone who has a life is out with friends, sleeping, and then waking to do their long runs.
The vast majority of people who think you are crazy think so because you predicted all THREE records (that has been debated enough). The vast majority ALSO AGREED that the 10km would be the one that was most likely. So, your childish reposting/responding to all of the comments that you THOUGHT disagreed with you is only more fuel for those that think you need to get a life.
Please don't bother responding as I will not check back as I am now going to cut the grass, go to a movie with my family, return for a run, and then enjoy a BBQ with the neighbours.
Congratulations to SB on a great run that REALLY was not all that surprising from someone who just finished 13th at WXC.
Cheers!
Skuj, I am a huge fan of Bairu's, but you are going crazy with this -- the point has been made!
(To be clear on where I stand, I think that he could take the Canadian record in the marathon, too, and if he plans the summer and fall well, the HM could be easy pickings.)

Last time I checked, there were 24 different time zones in the world. This is not a North America Only forum.
Oh, and bump, snicker.....

Nice try, but most of the posts I bumped were calling me an idiot for making the predictions, and if they still want to call me that after 27:23, then I'll have a lot more to bump later on. I'm loving this!!!
(I'm also very aware that the embarrassed/gulity have changed their handles in order to rebutt - not surprising really - there's not much cahones at letsrun.)

This is a point that I actually made, and was ridiculed for it by some (probably including you).
God I love this, hahahahahahaha......
Uh, I am not at all embarrassed by the post you quoted by me since if you actually read it you will notice it says that he "might" break the 10k record. Also, you neglected to bump the rest of my posts where I changed that to a definite affirmative for the 10k record when I found out he was signed up for Payton Jordan.
I didn't respond until now because I was out running a new 10k personal best this morning (chopped almost 4 minutes off my old one).
I still stand by what I said - I don't expect he will break all four records this year. If he is training for a fall marathon then I'm pretty sure he will not set the 5k record this year, and I think if he sets the half record he won't set the marathon record. I'd be perfectly happy to have him prove me wrong, though, and I feel like he does have a great shot at either of those records.
P.S. Your posts on this thread today greatly reduced my opinion of you, Skuj. I thought you were a decent guy before now, but really, your reaction to a new Canadian record was pretty childish. Not that my opinion of you should matter to you, since you don't know me and we've never met. Still, my first reaction was to get really excited, not to go on a message board and bash a bunch of people who predicted an incorrect result.

Simon Bairu will not set the 5000m record. He will not even come close to it. I'm not even sure he would break 13:30 much less 13:13. He might set the 10,000m record. I wouldn't be surprised there, but I don't think he's going to go for a really fast 10k. He's most likely gearing up for a marathon after his win at Arizona half in a not-Canadian record time.
Hey "clearly", 27:23 = 2x13:41......but he won't break 13:30 eh?
I'm in muthaf***in tears!!! Keep covering your tracks folks.....this is killing me, roflmfao.....

My reaction to 27:23 is beyond excitement, and my reaction to those who ridiculed me earlier (read the f***ing posts!!!) is entirely appropriate.
Carry on.

We'll see. I still think he's getting ready for his marathon debut and won't run a fast 5k (which is why I say he won't go under 13:30 this year - I don't expect him to race 5k as part of a marathon buildup). We're also talking about a guy who trains with Schumaker's group, none of whom seem to race that often.
As far as the humour you find in my posts, keep laughing if you like. I don't mind. I do have to note that you can't really accurately comment on my opinion if you don't even know what it is. Your last few posts indicate you haven't even read all of my posts. For reference, so you don't have to go back (feel free, so you can laugh some more at whatever it is you think I said) this post fairly accurately summarizes my thoughts.
And when it comes to Bairu (or anyone) breaking records, any records, I'm happy if it happens. I'm still not predicting a 5k record this year. Your opening post claimed he would get all four this year. I have maintained all along (I'm pretty sure? If not, then I intended to and I apologize) that he won't get all four this year - I think I've stuck with at most two. I continue to maintain that opinion. My prediction is based on him not racing 5k, because why would he? It's also based on most elite runners running slightly slower half marathon times before they run fast marathons, or conversely running a fast half marathon but doing comparatively badly in their subsequent marathon. I personally think my predictions in this regard are pretty fair.
Anyway, I came on here hoping to see a bunch of people talking up Canadian distance running, but since I'm not seeing that I'm going to stop responding. Enjoy yourself.

WRONG!!!
(Don't lecture me about not reading carefully, Pal!) :)

Fair enough. Only three. You still need a lecture about reading posts, and my failure to do so doesn't change that. Sorry, buddy, no go on that one.
Your opening post claimed he would get three. He won't. Clear enough for you?

Oh sure, that's a pretty clear opinion, and I can't wait to bump it later this year, along with your "he likely won't break 13:30" and other things! :)
(Holy f***, pq, is that you?)
Anyway.....how about that 27:23 last night, eh?
And.....I have my reasons for not saying 4. What is his Marathon debut, folks? I have a feeling he has "unfinished business" on the track.
You guys hating on my buddy, Skuj., are totally missing the point here...
Whether Simon ACTUALLY goes for all the records this year or not, he is clearly capable of doing so - which is exactly the point that Skuj. made, in the first instance...
Maybe he won't get in a good fast 5K., but both his X-C performance, and now his 10K., would lead me to suggest that he can 13:10 or faster, maybe a lot faster...
And good for you, Skuj., for making the prediction, and then calling out the guys, who were calling you out, prior to last evening. Who was right, and who was wrong? Well done, bud!

Thats not the point he made
He said "Simon Bairu will set National Records for 5000m, 10000m and Half Marathon in 2010. You heard it here first. He turned a corner with his 13th place run at WXC."
not the same thing as saying the guy is capable of it, cause probly not too many think he's not capable.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.......I bet you're one of the "embarrassed". C'mon Man, reveal thyself. :)
Actually, I was ridiculed several times here for thinking that he had turned a corner and was capable of any of those records after 13th at WXC. Shall I bump the posts again.....sigh.....???
