could bolt hold the 100, 200, 400 and 800 world records at the same time within the next 3 years?

This is what would happen to Bolt. He would get to 600m in 1:15-1:16 then would feel very tired (a feeling he never feels in most of his races), and that last 200m would be the longest and most painful of his life. And would jog it in for a 1:50+.

Ditto on the Webb in the womens 200m. Lets make it happen.

Bolt couldn't crack 2:00 off of his 100,200 training. Even with mid-d training he probably would never run much below 1:50.

Some of you people are so stupid. You don't think he could break 2? Come on, that's a shitty high school time. The fact he just ran a 43.5 (split) should indicate sub 2:00 would be a cakewalk. 1:50, he would need to train for it. WR, I don't think will ever happen. But it's fun to talk about.

He is a 100/200 guy, he can't even break 45 without it being a relay split.

The difference between a relay split and an open 400 is about .2-.3 seconds, not 1.5 seconds. That puts Bolt at 43.XX still.

He did ok in the 200m and that has a turn.

I don't, no. You clearly have never run or watched an 800. Have you EVER seen an 800 close faster than it opens? Even for someone as fast as Bolt after running 3x his longest race distance closing within 4 seconds of his 200 PB is a huge stretch.

You also assume Bolt has the race intelligent and persistance to run consistent splits. This a guy who reports say is largely lazy and runnin mostly on his talent. Having trained with close-to world-class and world-class 800m runners I can safely say there is no way a sprinter could do that training.

If Bolt leaves the 100,200 in order to focus on the 400, Gatlin will take back the record. This is his first year back off of suspension. Surely, he is hungry for competition and domination and revenge.

There is so much stupidity on this thread; it is unbelievable.

His splits would be ugly. He hasn't really even trained for the 400m yet. Has yet to break 45 open.

His splits would probably be something like:

200m: 27

400m: 55...cake walk at this point.

600m: 1:25...wheels start to come off around 500m

800m: 2:00

He's a sprinter. Sprinters are sprinters for a reason.

bolt's split has been re-estimated at ~ 44.4 -> open 400 of

45.1 - 45.5

0.7 - 1.1? Maybe 0.4-0.7. Johnson split 42.91. Wariner split like 43.2 around the same time he was in 43.5 shape. 44 low guys like Taylor, Pettigrew, etc. split in the mid/high 43s.

Bram Som is about 20cm shorter than Bolt is, and he's not that built. Som has the built of a...indeed...800m runner!

Gatlin never was for real, and never will be! Couldn't brake 9.8 without a 2.0 wind and a whole lot of chemicals behind him. Even that 9.85 is complete bogus. Your boy trained with GRAHAM, need I say more. To even suggest that he will be a force is plain stupid. Dwain was faster as a (clean) junior, is problably the hungriest sprinter around right now and is running 10.0.

i severely doubt they gave anything like the absolute best as the goal was to win the gold & not crash'n'burn or pull a hamstring & lose

empirically, you can get an idea of the value from formula for it

relay time = ( sum of individual current abilities ) - 3( flying leg value)

if you have 4 guys of 45-flat ability, then :

relay time = 180 - (3*flying)

now, only america & GB have ever had 4 guys in a team with 45-flat ( or better ability )

0.4s ->2'58.8

1.1s ->2'56.6

looking at alltime lists, 0.4s value is far too slow as jamaica, bahamas, russia, poland, brazil & nigeria have all run faster than 2'58.8 & they definitely didn't have 4 guys at the time with averaged 45s ability each

the value is much nearer 1.1s end

If he trained for the 400, he would probably be able to run faster than 1:50 for the 800 (and would probably be in the 43 something second 400 range if not faster). If he trained for the 800, I'm sure he could run 1:43-1:45, maybe faster. Look at Juantorena (he was a big guy 6'3" 185) and he ran 1:43:50. Harold Schmidt was big guy and could run the 800 well. I don't know if Bolt could ever run the world record in the 800 but anyone who doesn't think he could go below a 1:50, while training for the 800, isn't thinking straight.
