I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this but several years back Vroemen had another positive test (I remember reading simmilar excuses on his blog about it!). I believe he later got cleared but I don't have the details. I believe he may be guilty of using PEDs.
This happening to me is thus a great shock, especially since I had basicly retired and was just running for fun

Perhaps he got lucky... Perhaps he was in a period of his training when he wasn't taking the substance...
There are a thousand possiblities why he didn't get caught. Not every test will turn up everyone who is doping 100% of the time... Those that have been caught have most likely been doping frequently and their luck finally ran out.

In an earlier post, I acknowledged that this particular drug has been found in supplements that were manufactured in the United States. At the same time, however, I am pretty sure that the drug has not been manufactured in the U.S. or western Europe for at least five or six years, so contamination from a supplement manufactured in the U.S. seems highly unlikely in this case, unless the athlete was using a very old batch of supplements. In any event, I do not believe that Vroemen has even proposed the possibility of contaminated supplements, much less produced any such supplements for chemical analysis.
(By the way, although I'm generally impervious to expressions of anti-American sentiment, which are often entirely warranted, yours is rather odious.)

The second drugs test carried out on Dutch steeplechaser Simon Vroemen is also positive, news agency ANP reports. Earlier this week it emerged that Vroemen, the European 3,000 metre steeplechase record holder, had tested positive for anabolic steroids.
Vroemen (39) says he will contest the outcome of the tests. The steroid found in his urine is largely used by bodybuilders and would not do anything to help distance runners, Vroemen says

I can't figure out what Vroemen is trying to say. It appears that on the one hand he is unequivocally denying ever taking steroids while on the other it's a case of "well, even if I was.....it wouldn't have helped me anyway".
He was given the benefit of the doubt the first time he failed a drug test. This time he no longer has that cushion.
He may be a bright guy. He may be a nice guy. But he has failed drug tests TWICE. Therefore (IMHO) he can no longer receive credit for any athletic peformance in his past. He has deprived clean athletes accolades they deserve whether it be in the form of medals, money, or whatever makes a runner tick on that particular day.
Credability is what 99% of us runners run for, and if this is taken away from him for this behaviour than that's fine by me!
It seems he is trying to cover all possibilities...Has he been caught before?
If you read the comments on his homepage, surprisingly many believe him.
Scary that is undetectable after two weeks - With drugs getting so advanced and the testing windows smaller and smaller can we ever hope to have a clean sport?
He's a f***ing cheat and he knows it. I never trusted him. Don't be surprised if another top European distance runner is outted soon.
