I am wrong! KNAU did not announce it, but Simon himself did, to his credit:
that's a real shame. Not sure if I believe him fully, but it's great to see him be a man and come out with it now. I do hope he find's his "b" negative.
"Dianabol is a derivative of testosterone, exhibiting strong anabolic and moderate androgenic properties. Dianabol compound was first made available in 1960, and Dianabol quickly became the most favored and widely used anabolic steroid in all forms of athletics ... Dianabol has always been one of the most popular anabolic steroids available. Dianabol's popularity stems from it's almost immediate and very strong anabolic effects. 4-5 tablets of Dianabol a day is enough to give almost anybody dramatic results."
And this ...
"Several haemodynamic variables were measured in sixteen well-trained athletes at rest and during muscular exercise before and after two months of a daily oral dose of 15 mg of metandienone, an anabolic steroid (17alpha-methyl-17beta-hydroxy-1,4-androstadien-3-one). Their training programmes were the same as they had been for at least three years before the study. During metandienone treatment the total blood volume increased by about 15%, and the heart rate decreased significantly both at rest and during exercise. The resting values of cardiac index and stroke index did not differ significantly, while during muscular exercise cardiac index showed a tendency to increase, and stroke index increased by 20% during the treatment period."
And this ...
"Dianabol was also shown to increase endurance and glycogen retention."
For someone who can't figure out how this got into his system, he sure lucked into a nice anabolic running aid.
why would anyone hope that his B is negative? I would rather it be posative and have to tell everyone how it got in his system..
His blog is more of like.. an "oh sht I got caught, I was stupid not to retire".. rather then "How did this get in my body? what did i take that could have done this?"
trace results.. please..... I mean the headline is almost like an Oh shit type statement.. "small trace, large consiquences" ummm duhhh!!!
...this is a real bummer....
This is the first time I've heard the "contaminated meat" arguement, has this ever been considered a possibility in the past?
So that's how he managed to run fast steeple times ... being so old... figures.
Shades of Regina
This was bound to happen and I'm glad he got caught. He's been a cheat for years and he had it coming. It would've been nice to have believed that his ER was legit but I never trusted him. I'm still not holding my breath on the Swiss marathoner, either.

The Chinese swimmer who just (weeks ago) tested positive for clenbuterol had the same line. :)
Tainted meat is today's "spiked toothpaste."
A small trace with large consequences?
July 11th 2008 - Athletic friends and others, I want to inform you that one of the anti-doping tests I did has revealed minimum amounts of a forbidden medicine in my urine a few weeks ago. The compound, named metandienone, increases muscle weight and volume (not so much strenth) and is therefore popular in the body building scene. As a steeple chase runner, one would probably only be disadvantaged by its consequences. It appears to be traceable up to 9 months in your urine and is hence unlikely to be used consciously by sportsmen as a performance-enhancing substance.
Although observed amounts are very limited and I am quite hopeful that the B test would thus not show them again, I feel it is my moral obligation to be open and inform all of you about it. I am just schocked and stressed by all this. I have an athletic career of 15 years behind me with a thousand of tests, and have actively participated in various anti-doping educational programs for youth. This happening to me is thus a great shock, especially since I had basicly retired and was just running for fun.
I accept anyones opinion and know that opinions vary in such cases. I have had thoughts over the last stressful days about what and why. I had retired, have had the infamous Pfeiffer (mono) disease... Was I probably in that period less careful about the medication I took? Did I need to be so careful, not being a top athlete anymore? Was I naive in returning to racing because it caused me so much fun doing it? And could these traces, as some veterinarian specialist say, result from polluted meat that I ate on my travels outside Europe? I can only guess....
While waiting for the results of the B sample, my webpage is open to any comments, as long as they respect the discretion and integrity that I have always had towards my sports and other people. Feel free to write something....
Simon

Don't speak about cases you don't know anything about. You obviously have now clue about the Baumann case so PLEASE don't comment on it. It is rather annoying.
Vroemen = drug cheat
Baumann = victim of criminal act

Vroemen = drug cheat
Baumann = victim of criminal act
take your crock of shite and go peddle it somewhere else
Baumann was caught and found guilty despite all his protestations
he is seen as a cheat in the tainted world of athletic drug cheats

Protestations??? Baumann passed a lie detector test as well as a hair analysis (which can trace drug use up to 6 months).

and Linford Christie used Ginseng
This is bad news for the white race.

Sorry - that's not a very good comparison. There are police reports confirming Baumann's above stated tests. He would have been let off in any legal case based on the evidence he provided not in front of the IAAF though. You may believe it or not BUT it really is a very, very sad case where a clean athlete's live has been destroyed over night.
I'm not saying Baumann did or didn't use drugs, but passing a lie detector test doesn't prove anything whatsoever. There are several techniques used successfully to beat lie detector tests.
