The younger skier could not beat the semi retired senior?? Guess the younger skier did not earn "their place"..... KAREN. Let me guess, u also watched Kid Rock?
Anyone see that? It looked like her entire knee went sideways.
Probably not a good idea to ski with a torn acl. Were there no alternates that could compete for her? Why aren’t people all mad like they were at okeefe
The US sent four women in the downhill. There was no alternate that had a ghost of a chance to ski will. Even without an ACL, Lindsey was better than the US's 5th best skier. The US has some amazing skiers but is actually not that deep.
The fallout from Lindsey Vonn's devastating crash in the Olympic downhill included a key question: Should she have been allowed on a course that is dangerous even to perfectly healthy skiers? The answer from the skiing commun...

No, she was better than all 4. She earned her # 1 spot with actuall races this season. No style points in running or downhill skiing! She earned it over everyone.

Lindsay was in way over her head with the injury.
After only making two turns (11 seconds in) she is out of control.
Couldn’t load her left downhill leg causing her body to rotate onto her right where she was sitting back just before the rise that adds Gs. Nightmare stuff, she already knows all hell will break loose & the race is over.

you're underplaying it. vonn was first place in the ski circuit standings this season. this situation was akin to an american is dominating the early DL races and wins trials, then pops a hammy in training or at a later DL meet. then tries to rehab it real fast, probably too fast. on merit she had a great season, she was not called up on history, her comeback was working. she was making podiums.
then the ACL. honestly when i watched earlier racers go down the hill i was like those first few turns are going to be hard on her knees. but she actually crashed getting too aggressive and not because the knee gave.
i don't think the knee helped when she crashed. when you're helicoptering off a gate snag you could use some shock absorbers. and she just went down in an awkward mess hence the broken leg.
i would say that the normal exit for female skiiers is they go down the hill slowly in some cute german mountain village girl outfit. i am serious. they go slowly down the mountain taking a lap of honor, throwing petals. she does that she makes it down fine. but you're not winning a medal and not really racing. she doesn't do cute.
this was evel knievel stuff. i figured either a high finish or she ends up in a heap. i thought the odds unfortunately favored heap. a lot of the stuff they have to do requires good legs and shock absorbance.
to come at this from a slightly different direction, i have watched skiing a while, though less the last couple years when NBC lost a lot of the rights (similar to DL in track). i didn't recognize 1/3 or more of the skiiers -- including the silver medalist -- and wondered where a bunch of the women's downhillers had gone. i assume knees and broken legs. it's a tough business.
She was tentative, protective of her knee, causing her to get off the line, and ultimately crashing.
And she took a spot away from someone else.
NOT heroic.
VERY selfish.
Jesus Christ you're dense. She crashed because she took the most aggressive, tighest line. She "took a spot" away from the alternate, whom she absolutely demolished in the first test run before finishing on the podium of the second test run. She attempted to ski even more aggressively in the final and caught the wrong side of it. You're a misogynist that feels the need to kick a woman when she's down even though the facts don't support anything you're saying.
yeah, i keep seeing people acting like either the knee gave, or affected her line. it looked to me like she was trying to go close on the right to the gate she hit, to then sweep hard left on the long curve after that. i think it's more like she was thinking about that curve already and forgot to clear the gate she was on. smack, done.
it's like forgetting to get your trail leg over the hurdle. you get the front leg over, you're thinking about back to running, the next hurdle. ooops, snag your trail leg. which can just throw you straight down to the track and ugly.
or the football player who fumbles the handoff or drops the pass because he's looking downfield thinking about his next move.
Meant a younger skier didn't get their place thanks to her.
And the Whereabouts-Dodger got gold.
Dodger? Hardly. Look at the details. She has never tested positive for anything despite numerous tests. They determined there was a very low chance of any gaming on her part or that she had been taking any performance enhancing drugs. She basically did a poor job managing their website to announce when she would be away.
Any links to non-biased details? Isn't saying they never tested positive and that whereabouts reporting is hard the excuse of every single athlete in every sport that misses too many tests? I mean, you can't test positive for the tests you missed, so I'm not sure how much the in-competition tests and the tests you took when you knew you were clear prove?
Any teammate speaking out against Lindsay or beating her in a practice run would be blacklisted. Big business
Lindsay was not taking an aggressive line she was 100% out of control well before the gate. That why she was launched sideways, I raced DH in college. A ruptured/torn ACL is nonsense to ski on.

She had the 3rd fastest qualifying time heading into the finals.
In simpler terms: she had a legit medal chance and no other American belonged on the line. The same could not be said about Okeefe.
For anyone bashing on Vonn/coaches for even starting, grab your raisin sized nuts and go back to bed. She rode the lightning all the way into a bodybag off the mountain.

Tired of her and her constant need to be the center of attention. NBC bought into her at Allyson Felix levels and I have no idea who else might be competing. Blech.
