Sam Tanner is being lured way with an offer hard to refuse (non Nike), which seems like a long play to get the kid ON board. Would involve a coaching change.
Uumm no. The race that Cooper ran his 1:42 had 8 guys run sub 1:45 and it was in perfect conditions. Ruthe just ran 1:45 with only Tanner to compete against and the conditions were nowhere near ideal. If Ruthe was put in a Diamond League race 6 months or so from now with a stellar lineup and similar perfect conditions I believe he too could run something extraordinary.
Yeah, Cooper had a pretty perfect day to run 1:42. Biggest/peak race of the season, no expectations, he paced himself perfectly, the front of the race was so fast he had people to mow down the last 200m, and he just had a great day. No one should be surprised if he doesn’t (or does) run 1:42 again this year. He could be in the same fitness and only run 1:43 mid.
Also, this is faster than what Cooper ran indoors last year by like a second. I don’t think Ruthe will run 1:42 this year, but 1:44 low outdoors in good conditions + faster competition is definitely possible after today, and 1:43 is on the table, which would be competitive with Cooper/anyone in the world.
Yeah Cooper ran that race like he got 12 hours of sleep. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't beat that this year but I would imagine this season will be overall better for him.
Thanks Dadrunner. Question...has Armstronglivs reached out to you yet, or invited you to a BBQ. Guess not.
this was tongue in cheek. But really, you (Armstronglivs) are in NZ. Why don't you address your concerns privately (or publicly I suppose) to the people that matter there, The the NZ Athletics, to the Ruthe team, to the doping authorities , to the govt sports ministry , to whomever....rather than casting stones on a running forum ad nauseum. Criticism veiled as innuendo veiled as 'free speech'.
Make the accusations directly and people will support you if you are correct. Otherwise you are just an (old and grumpy) tool
It is the kind speculation that is frequently made here of runners from any country. If the athletes in question were Kenyans it's easy to see what the attitude on these boards would be. But Kenyans aren't the only athletes who dope.
NEVER going to happen with me posting such thread, you troll. Enjoy Sam's outstanding performance and seek attention on your own merit and not inclusion of someone's else name. YOU'RE PATHETIC.

His dad obviously looks in here and could answer this definitively. I've seen videos of his training. He does interval sessions in a group. Tanner is part of that group at least at times and the two of them are sometimes (at least) close to each other but I don't know if they do the same number of reps in a typical session. I imagine Tanner runs more mileage. Sam is doing about 60k a week. Last I knew he was on Strava but you needed to request to follow him.

Watch this space.

Oooooooh I feel the tension deep in my plums...
Love that little ON board reference. I guess it would be a blockBUSTER move of sorts right?

I get that...but you didn't answer a simple question and a simple exercise for you to do to settle this
I hear they are cooking up and big Stew and inviting Tanner to dinner. He can bring a guest with him but then must have nil contracts, so the conversation can be on going!
i have zero inside info, their progression has no very high probability fit with PED programs going back to Viren.
the only red flag are extremely outlying fast times.
you need many blatant red flags in combination with insider information.
things like training partners and coaches repeatedly being busted, coming from a drug infested area, having a sports med team, the performance jump after static journeyman carear, training locations, behavior forensics, sudden speed or endurance jump, tell tale physical appearancevin non running related muscle groups. jaw, mannerisms, lats shoulders, etc.

It’s all cope. Like one poster noted earlier, the nats meet was Coop’s outdoor debut against elites. Give him a couple of seasons against the top runners at 800m and Ruthe will likely not even want to bother racing Coop over two laps unless he is looking to be pulled to a PR.
