Camille Herron suing Canadian Runner magazine

Plus, I've been suffering from CRS (Can't remember sh*t) for a long time and I'm not a jerk. She just keeps trying to explain away her behavior. Nobody's buying. Good.

She was not an ultra runner back then. She was a minimalist.

The criteria for defamation of a public figure are reckless disregard for the truth and malicious intent. Sullivan v. NY Times, a Supreme Court case from along time ago.

Anyone here or any journalists stumped up the $10 yet to see what her actual complaint is? It seemed like a pretty open and shut case before, or at least required the mother of all multiple coincidences for the wiki stuff not to involve her- didn't she already blame it solely on her partner previously? I'm guessing the lawsuit is for emotional distress caused or some small non-proven element, rather than saying the magazine made up the whole thing, as that ship has already sailed as far as I remember.

So, Camille gets canceled and her career ruined based on her ‘ partner’ violating the terms of an extremely flawed, public sourced, website?
She will make millions in the defamation suit in all the whiny, pimply, incel, basement dwelling, fruits here will go back home(Parents home) devastated.

Her husband took the blame but anyone who knows Camille would tell you that it was her who did the wikipedia entries. She didn't understand how wikipedia works and she thought it were jealous runners who fixed her entries. But in reality it were longtime wikipedia people who did the corrections according to the rules of wikipedia and Canadian running magazine pointed that out.

She was certainly pompous and arrogant at that time, too.

Given that the first wiki ban was for an account linked to her personal email address and the edits went weirdly quiet whenever she was running ultras, I suspect a judge will use Occam's razor and throw it out before they actually have to do forensics on hard drives and devices. I'm pretty sure the wiki stuff was very inkeeping with her offline persona too- she tried to get records scrubbed and publicly accused other athletes of shoe doping etc, so it's somewhat easy to imagine this attitude creeped into online world too.

CAUSES OF ACTION
COUNT I
Defamation
177. Plaintiff repeats and restates all allegations as if fully set forth herein.

178. Defendant Canadian Running publicly published a Defamatory Article on September 23, 2024, asserting that Camille was personally involved in a Wikipedia scandal that falsely described her accomplishments while taking down well-earned accomplishments on other ultrarunner Wikipedia pages as set out in detail herein.

179. Defendant Canadian Running’s Defamatory Article included blatantly false and intentionally misleading statements designed to inflict reputational harm on Camille.

180. All statements, insinuations, implications, and innuendos alleged herein by Defendant Canadian Running were false and defamatory, bringing Camille into disrepute, contempt, and/or ridicule within the ultrarunning community specifically and the athletic community in general.

181. None of the statements, insinuations, implications, and innuendos made by Defendant Canadian Running were privileged.

182. Defendant Canadian Running published the statements, insinuations, implications, and innuendos with actual malice as it knew the statements insinuations, implications, and innuendos were false or made with reckless disregard as to whether or not the statements, insinuations, implications, and innuendos were true or false.

183. Each statement, insinuation, implication, and innuendo alleged herein, singularly or in combination, has impeached and continues to impeach the honesty, integrity, and reputation of Camille.

184. Defendant Canadian Running is liable for at least presumed damages as the statements, insinuations, implications, and innuendos were made within the context of Camille’s business profession – ultrarunning.

185. As a direct and proximate result of Defendant Canadian Running’s conduct, Camille has been damaged by losing existing and prospective sponsorship and ambassador agreements and/or sponsorship opportunities.

186. As a direct and proximate result of Defendant’s conduct, Camille has suffered mental anguish, emotional distress, pain and suffering, humiliation, harm to reputation, and loss of enjoyment of life and other consequences as set out herein.

187. All of Defendant Canadian Running’s false and misleading statements, insinuations, implications, and innuendos were published with actual malice for the specific purpose of dam aging Camille’s good name, standing, and reputation in the ultrarunning community. Accordingly, Camille is entitled to an award of punitive damages in an amount sufficient to punish Defendant and deter others from engaging in the same or similar conduct.

COUNT II
Intentional Interference with Business Contract and Expectancies
188. Plaintiff repeats and restates all allegations as if fully set forth herein.

189. Camille had a valid business contract with Lululemon and valid business expectancies with other athletic entities given the fact that she remains one of the top ultrarunner athletes in the world, especially in light of her ability to proudly represent athletes with disabilities.

190. Defendant Canadian Running intentionally or recklessly made false and misleading defamatory and malicious statements, insinuations, implications, and innuendos about Camille to the ultrarunning community.

191. Defendant Canadian Running’s intentionally or recklessly false and misleading defamatory and malicious statements, insinuations, implications, and innuendos about Camille to the ultrarunning community was done with actual malice with the intent to interfere with Camille’s valid business contract and business expectancies or with reckless disregard as to the consequences to Camille.

192. Defendant Canadian Running had an improper motive when it interfered with Camille’s business expectancies, in that it intentionally sought to belittle, humiliate, and embarrass Camille.

193. Defendant Canadian Running’s interference was improper and for the self-serving purpose of sensationalism for the singular goal of increasing its own readership.

194. As a direct and proximate result of Defendant Canadian Running’s improper conduct, Camille has been damaged in an amount to be proven at trial.

195. Defendant Canadian Running acted with an evil mind and with such aggravated and outrageous conduct that punitive damages are warranted. [bold is from the complaint, not my adding]

WHEREFORE, Plaintiff Camille Herron respectfully request judgment against Defendant Canadian Running as follows:
1. For compensatory damages in an amount to be proven at trial;
2. For punitive damages in a total amount to be proven at trial;
3. For pre-judgment interest on all liquidated amounts at the highest rate allowed by law;
4. For post-judgment interest at the highest rate allowed by law;
5. For such other relief as the Court deems proper and just.

I read through this. First, I hope her attorneys got paid upfront, because this lawsuit is going to get tossed immediately.

Second, this is just another example of people willing to denigrate others with a legitimate affliction (ADHD) as incapable of ethical behavior. Which should absolutely piss off anyone in that group. The entire suit is predicated on believing she's incapable of knowing right from wrong because of ADHD.

Third, ultimately she's so misguided in this attempt to what, get her reputation back through this ridiculous lawsuit? How does this help? What sponsor would possibly go near at this point even when the PR side of this cools down knowing she'll sue for just about any reason?

This is grasping at straws. I have no idea, but I can only assume money must be getting tight for them, so why not give this a shot.
