In this conversation, Randy Ashley and I tall a little about how he got into coaching, before discussing all things related to working with high school athletes: keeping it fun, building and maintaining team culture, dealing...
if I could recruit all the best guys from my state and put them into my team, yea, id have a pretty good program. Unfortunately, I dont have the luxury of giving a 60k athletic scholarship to students for to come run at my high school. youth sports are ruined. Sports used to teach us and younglings virtues such as hard work, integrity, propriety, resilience, etc. Now, even in a non-revenue sport like cross country, we are sacrificing those. My message to young kids: play the hand your dealt, make the best of your situation, you aren't the victim, dont run crybaby and go to a school where everything is handed to you. It's the embodiment of the corruption of our youth. These kids are doing to themselves a disservice of taking the easy road and bandwagoning to an already good program. It's sad to see, it's an affront to our forefathers before us. They didn't switch battalions because they thought one would be easier. Im all for chasing your dreams, you can always do that and preserve who you are at the core. We sacrifice our true self to chase our dreams and therefore we establish that we are not able to be ourselves and chase our dreams simultaneously. You can do both, its a shame adults in youth sports make us choose one
yeah, better to stay at their public school and get some random math teacher to act as their coach, or some woman that's run a 5k or two so she's now the XC guru.
you say they are avoiding difficulties; the other spin is that they are all coming together to work hard and accomplish great things.

You really think going to a school with a good coach, good team, and proven success isn’t making the best of YOUR situation? Sure, not all kids are able to do this, but the ones who are able, are clearly making the best out of THEIR situation. And you think these kids are not putting in hard work? The amount of improvement I've seen from this team doesn’t come from laziness…
Looks like CS has an 800 guy again after Reeves 1:53, puts his range from 15:10s on the course to 9:05 and 4:11 on the track. Wonder what they could throw down in a DMR their fastest 400 guy runs 52 but i bet they could make due
Two things can be true - he can be an very skilled coach who knows how to get the best out of his guys… and he tends to get “his guys” through disputably fair means
Randy Ashley made the kids do push ups between reps if they were off pace. I'd hope he's aware of the benefits of getting 4 transfers to carry your team to NXN, cause he better not be taking the credit
How much did the transfers improve from before they came to Christ School to the end of their first season at the school?
Please stop all the post about the Christ School. Nobody in NC or the country cares! Just a few f*cking parents or athletes trying to hype up a team like they’re Newbury Park.
