Probably won’t matter whoever gets into final 9 hours later as you can only swap one runner so 3 of those guys have to race again and won’t be on their A game

We asked Demarius Smith, who was in the middle of the delayed second exchange Friday night and had the slowest split today, if he was beinng personally coached by US relay coach Darryl Woodson. Smith: "There's no proof of that. That's first. Second of all, it doesn't matter...Keep doubting me. I'll be back."

They just said they can only replace one runner for final?
i heard that too, and it's not accurate. I think that's a rule for the mixed 4x4 only.
?
The US 2nd exchange was impeded and forced to come to a complete stop.
Oops sorry., forgot the quote. This was in response to the question about why the US was invited to the runoff.
I can't remember even seeing re-runs of the 4x400. Certainly not for anything as commonplace as exchange zone confusion, that happens every bloody race
Double absurd as Zambia was DQ'd for stepping in front of the line, something totally unrelated
WA making it up as they go again
Yep. I just looked in the rule book and it is only for the mixed 4x400.
Rule 24.10
Each member of a relay team may run one leg only. Any four athletes from among those entered
for the competition, whether for that or any other event, may be used in the composition of the
relay team for any round. However, once a relay team has started in a competition, up to a total of
four additional athletes may be used as substitutes in the composition of the team. If a team does
not follow this Rule, it shall be disqualified.

What's rule for regular 4x4?

But I saw the replay, it looked like a typical relay exchange where it's up to the runners to sort it out. I've seen them get in each other's way all the time.
Here are my split band time. 44.6 so like 44.8 or 9
44.9
44.3 (44.35 Fat)
44.46 Fat
I’m sure you guys have fat for last leg.
Here is a good interview with the guys. Smith directly confronts the critics.
Cool to see Chris Baily stepping up as the leader of that team. Very well spoken and confident in his guys, regardless of who makes up that final team
I hear you, although that was a particularly steong example. The US runner wasn't forced to weave; he was forced to stop.
But yes the officials could have ruled Play On. Maybe they didn't because Zambia was involved in the same situation on the next exchange, so that it felt to the officials like this was noylt simply a one-off?
You’re allowed to sub out all four runners and you can pick from anyone in the competition
So, why don’t we put Noah Lyles in first and run Rai last? :)
From this interview it sounds like the guys think that all four them can be replaced in the final, but on the live feed the announcer said three of these four guys will have to run again.
Does anyone know for sure?
All 4 can be subbed out.

They’ve been saying that since the mixed relay. I thought it might have been a special rule for only that event, but it seems the announcers are just confused
The announcer on whatever feed CBC uses may have gotten it wrong. I thought NBC said if we qualify, we can use four fresh runners in the final.
When USA wins 3 of the 4 relays some posters here had better be on suicide watch. some must live simply with the hope of American failure. I dislike our president also.
Brit commentators just admitted they got it wrong during decathlon coverage and any team can enter who they want on the relay.
