your welcome
not to split hairs but you have coached a guy to ?1'44.4
that is impressive but we don't know what he started out with for 800 when he joined you or whether other better known coaches might have got him too
some catholic priest apparently had big role in getting Rudy to 1'40.91WR
from his wiki :
so forgive me if i suggest there is huge spectrum of coaching ability
what coud Rudy have run if canova or salazar were his coach ???
it was not cheap !!!
admirable
however, i hope you are more qualified than that priest
excellent clockings & i take my hat of to you
however, i woudn't brag about the standards of a country where a national title can be won with someone with those pbs !
they are not realistic possibilities for his firenze shape
45.7 / 3'29.5 are with caveat that he woud not "last" perfectly to 1500 as he was always a 800 runner who ran 1500 off it in those years
( like you saying Rudy woud be lucky to run 3'33 at his 800 peak when theoretically 3'26 was abilty )
i'd go with 45.7 / 3'29.0
( offering the "Rudy factor" to likely 3'29.5 )
err...
you do know coe had to run plenty of 400s/relays to try & get into relay team which had medal ambitions
likes of morocco/ethiopia/somalia & sadly kenya nowdays despite 44.2NR have no ambitions at relay & therefore their 1500 guys woud never bother with circuit 400s
you do know the wrs he broke were 1'43.4/2'13.9/3'32.1/3'49.4 ???
do you seriously there have not been at least a dozen guys in last 40+y who couda beaten all 4 of those if that was their career target ???
a guy today has to break each of 1'40.9/2'11.9/3'26.0/3'43.1, which apart from the 1k are incredible times
the achievement today woud be quantum leap better
2 boycott games
- '80 hugely devalued as 2 west germans ran 3'31.5 & 3'31.9 after moscow, both faster than coe's 3'32.0wr
also no scott who was estimated by a top coach to have run equivalent of a 3'33+ solo if not for wind to win trials !!!
- '84 less devalued, but still no east europeans there who wouda caused some changes in race
'84 was fair win but no aouita who coudn't double 1500/5k & had apparently won a 1500 prior to games in 36-low finish in a 3'34.8 !!!
then cram was hugely injury-afflicted, ovett collapsed with respiratory problems after 800, scott & maree in poor shape at games, it can be very well claimed that all the luck went coe's way for that 1500
you do realise that the 2 quikest 1500 guys ever have much preferred 1500/5k
i have no doubt if hicham had done the 800/1500 double in sydney or athens he couda won a medal at 800 off his 1500 training, like aouita did in '88 but his injury didn't allow him to compete in the 1500 where no one doubts he wouda medalled
hicham couda probably won gold in sydney over 800 if he'd gone for it like Rudy in '12, with hicham probably putting in a 1'42-mid solo which wouda finished schumann by 600m
he had lesser shot at gold in '04 but borza was not exactly lightening up circuit with 1'43.92sb
i definitely believe hicham couda run 1'42-mid solo at worst in '04 & that probably wouda also ground the sub-par borza into the ground
no
it was a huge shock at 1'42 let alone 1'41 with unacceptable clocking
non-sequitur
just because he broke 4 p!ss-weak wrs decades ago doesn't indicate he was going to run 1'42+ or unacceptable-clocking of 1'41+
also, i have no idea what calculator your using
46.87 / 3'29.77 -> 1'43.25 , 2'12.89
no offence but your math is hugely off & very, very simple
i have no idea what this nonsense is ?
i can live with it
however, as someone who strikes me as trying to get to the "true" value of past greats, you only deny yourself further knowledge by getting the whole world to assess those splits & ascertain his "true value"
regardless, his solo 1'43.7 off too quick 24.3 after 3 consecutive rounds indicates to me a 1-off, fully rested, ideal paced to bell ~ 1'42-mid at 19y !!!
i am happy with that prelim estimate
cheers !!!
