In what world is stripping someone of their citizenship an appropriate punishment for a 39 year old naturalised citizen testing positive for PEDs?
You are responding to the wrong person. I am not suggesting that. He just needs to be as far away from the sport in all capacities and stop pretending he is such a good guy.
Why did UC Davis bring him in as an Interim coach knowing this was pending?
Clearly they didn't or it wouldn't be news right now it would have been news earlier if someone knew. I'm sure a few knew earlier like his coach, team, family, etc.
Another good reason to stop with those secret suspensions (provisional or otherwise). Those cause a whole bunch of other issues, including other athletes training with a suspended doper.

I think the process just needs to be much quicker. I don't think you go public right away with a dirty test if there is some arbitration or appeal that happens. Because as soon as you have a dirty test you are labeled guilty for your whole career. But to take a year and eight months is way too long.

The admin at a university would not have know about pending suspension, but Shady Shaddy would have known. It’s also highly likely that his coach, John Mansoor, also would have known, esp considering the long period since the positive test. Seems unbelievable that Mansoor would have orchestrated Shaddy’s hire at Davis given the circumstances, but who knows. For all the folks that got sucked in by Shaddy’s demeanor, that’s the crux of the problem with nice guys that make these selfish choices. As a satellite Hansons runner that saw his best years come late in his career, Shaddy’s accomplishments at Boston and New York all have to come into question now.
If you are right that they "clearly" did not know, then Biwott failed to disclose this was pending which reflects back on him. First UC Davis loses their distance coach and assistant distance coaches a week before the athletes report. Then the interim coach is tanked. Bad luck or incompetence? Either way it is a bad look for the school.

He had plenty of people around him that knew and didn't step in. Mansoor was also coaching and UC Davis and he's Shady's coach and he could have said that was a bad idea. I do wonder if this situation has anything to do with the other coaches leaving. I wouldn't want to be in that problem and answering a bunch of questionable actions right now.
If he actual did EPO, someone like this needs to come totally clean or be deported.
We should make citizenship conditional on continued good behavior. This is theft.
This is ridiculous. Do we start with the President of the US and make his citizenship conditional on good behavior?
Apples to oranges argument. EPO isn’t legal to have unless prescribed by a doctor. He committed a crime after being granted citizen status from a foreign country and should have citizen status revoked for willfully breaking the law.
I was surprised when I saw this news. Shadrack was known as one of the "good guys" on the circuit -- was always friendly in my interactions with him. Of course that doesn't mean he didn't take EPO. But I'd sometimes hear from him after Kenyan athletes tested positive; he struck me as someone who was firmly anti-doping.
I'll reach out to him and see what he has to say about his ban.
When was the time he raced? It says his postive test was confirmed in January 2024. Who was coaching him at the time? Wasn't he retired then?
I know Shadrock was repping SRA the last few years which made me think he didn't have a pro contract anymore. Funny, i never suspected him, but there are rumors of SRA masters runners who dope. But i highly doubt Mansoor or any other SRA "official" had any real knowledge.

I take that back. mansoor had to have known about the positive test. It's the masters runners that will never be proven.

I'm not sure how long SRA knew but they managed to pull him off their website instantly. That SRA Elite website needs some seriously updating since half the runners on there aren't in the sport anymore but they got Shaddy off quick and probably had a heads up before the news broke.
