The goal of right wing economists globally is to reduce the tax bill of the super wealthy, and increase the tax bill of the ordinary person.
Hence you will see propaganda against property taxes, inheritance taxes, income taxes and of progressive taxation. (because they are the taxes the wealthy pay)
And propaganda supportive of sales taxes, duties, payroll taxes, and flat taxation. (Because they are the taxes ordinary people pay).
It’s actually the dumbocrats trying to destroy the middle class with excessive taxation on the things that make one middle class.
Neither party cares about the middle class. The democrats represent the credentialed 10% (well paid middle management, administrators, engineers, professors and researchers, etc) and the republicans represent the 1%. Everything else is lip service.
Trumps rhetoric the first turn, was all about improving the economy for middle folks (by removing the immigrant competition and increasing demand for American manufacturing jobs). But what did he actually get done, Mitch McConnell's judges and Paul Ryan's tax cuts. Stuff for the 1%.
You agree because you cannot think. Explain what will replace the revenue of the property tax.
Sales and income tax works.
Florida doesn't have a state income tax, so that's out. Raising the sales tax can do it, but sales tax burden tends to fall disproportionately on the poorer segment of the population, who are actually *less* burdened by a property tax. Then you have to look at the numbers. The amount of property tax collected in Florida is roughly equal in magnitude to amount collected in sales tax, so that means you'd be doubling the sales tax (on average) to make up the revenue shortfall.

Bingo. Somebody here understands economic motivations. Trump has already cut the corporate tax rate twice, once in each term; DeSantis is going after property taxes; and the GOP is floating the idea of abolishing estate taxes.
Meanwhile, taxes paid by ordinary Americans are rising due to tariffs. And the GOP isn't lowering their income-tax brackets, as the party did for corporations.
Middle-class voters are supporting policies that don't help them, but which do help the very wealthy. That's the reality.
Someone explain to these schills for the rich the idea of "regressive taxes"
And the whole "defer property taxes for GRandma so she doesn't have to die in the street" bull? Prop 13 did that in CA and it has screwed over multiple generations of Californians as those old people simply say, "l'll move when I'm in a coffin." while complaining that the community dies around them, schools die around them, businesses die around them. Guess what? With that tax exemption they are disincentivized to downsize as they get older, to sell before they die so that communities turn over generationally.

The #1 beneficiaries of Prop 13 are businesses not grandmas.

That won't be popular.
Yet you're willing to believe that tariffs will be a burden on everyone and destroy the economy, but property taxes won't be a burden on everyone and destroy the economy?
States for whatever reason choose their income flow - income, sales and property taxes. States that have do not have any control over their spending and grift choose all three.

About 67% of households own their home in Florida. I would also venture that homeowners are slightly more likely to vote than renters.
Tourism generates $130B in revenue to FL. 16% of Florida’s sales tax comes from tourism. Most people don’t quantify their sales tax burden.
It’s possible it could pass in Florida when removing property tax is an instant savings. I pay about $8K per year in property tax. I’m not sure I would vote for it, but I would consider it.

SIMPLE: Every state in America needs to abolish property taxes. GOVERNOR RON DESANTIS: "It's almost like they have to pay rent to the government, just to be able to enjoy their property. That's wrong. We need to do something about it." "[People] have their homes paid off and they bought it 30 years ago for a certain amount. Now they're being told it's worth so much more and they have to pony up more and more money."
States and local government need some way to raise revenue as they have duties most people think are important (police, fire, courts, schools and in most cases I think people are ok with the government being the builder and maintainer of roads). So how do you propose to fund government (even at greatly reduced levels)?
You agree because you cannot think. Explain what will replace the revenue of the property tax.

Sales taxes have issues too. People shop in lower taxed areas. They are regressive on poorer people. Income taxes have issues as well such as people voting to the point that half do not have to pay (at the federal level anyway).
In NYC, much of the property taxes going to support socialist programs.
Here in Baltimore the property tax rates are more than double of surrounding counties (or anywhere else in the state). And for what? Roads are sh!t - they're probably in better condition in Kabul or Bakhmut. Crime is still high and public services aren't great as well

if you get rid of property taxes, then you are asking for the state/local government to cover it with Sales taxes. Are you willing to pay sales taxes over 10% (maybe upwards of 20%) just so you don't have property taxes?
LOL, a LOT of California cities have sales taxes over 10% and we've got among the highest income taxes in the country (but property taxes are around 25th in the nation, thank God for Prop 13 or we'd be eff'd).
Republicans are too stupid to understand that Abolish the Property Tax = Defund the Police.
Florida has no income tax and DeSantis has been carving up the sales tax his entire time as governor. You've got to have revenue from somewhere if you're going to have a functioning state. But there is literally no amount of taxation that Rs will not complain about. Look at Alaskans. No income tax, no sales tax AND the citizens get an annual $1000 check from the government, financed by oil and gas royalties. Guess who still complains about taxes being too high?
Meanwhile, Trump raises taxes on U.S. consumers by more than any president in modern history, while cutting taxes for the rich and ensuring the IRS has no resources to go after tax cheats, and normie Rs cheer him on.
Alaska has a graduated corporate income tax (up to 9.4%), there are local sales taxes and small property tax.

Florida, along with Hawaii and Nevada, can get a lot of money by taxing out of state (and international) tourism as well.
In general I think state income taxes are the fairest way to provide local services. That carries with it the implication that schools in rich neighborhoods won’t be better funded, because the state will provide the money based on the number of students. And state income taxes can be bracketed and progressive.
If you rely too much on one revenue stream you run into problems. Tourism in NV seems to be taking a hit right now.
All tax schemes have pros and cons. None are perfect.
So how you are supposed to get schools and bridges financed?
School Admins where I live get paid $250,000 per year. In addition, they get $100,000s worth of benefits in the form of the best health insurance plans and pension programs.
this is public information.
The school districts buy brand new buses every year, hundreds of thousands of dollars.
they approve $90 M athletic field projects, even though we already have athletic fields in decent shape.
the only nice thing we get for property taxes is that they will pick up branches/trees on the side of the road.
we could realistically cut the total property taxes in half and we would be ok. Make up the difference in sales tax, because the rest is wasteful and evil quite frankly.
property taxes are theft.
You clearly live in Texas so stop complaining about taxes.

I don't know what you are trying to say here. I didn't mention tariffs.
If Florida removes property taxes then essentially everything must be funded via a sale tax (or increased fees). To stay revenue neutral the sales tax will have to double, which would give it the highest sales taxes in the nation. People will 100% notice that every time they go shopping.
Property taxes are usually passed on to renters, but it remains to be seen if an elimination of property taxes will result in reduced rent, so renters might not see the drop that home-owners do. So renters might get stiffed by all this.
