I hope he breaks 1:40. It would be marvelously poetic.
Seven years with a pb of 1:47, and then he improves by 7 seconds to go under 1:40.
Hopefully, at age 27.
Yeah, how on earth is that "poetic"?
It's either suspicious as the other poster said, or just plain shocking/incredible.
If anyone a little more "tan" did it, you would unequivocally scream doper.
He may very well be clean. I will give him the benefit of the doubt. But if daddy will buy you a track, and pay coaches to live at your house, what else might he buy you?
Exactly, guy goes through five coaches, and paid for by daddy, and you’re telling me that daddy isn’t also trying to find the best cocktail to get his son on. It’s either one of the greatest natural improvements of all time, well after when you would have expected it. Or he’s dirty as hell.

I’m nowhere near sure on Hoey and the Gault article didn’t convince me either way, but it sounds like his dad was a detriment, sabotaging the coaches throughout. You can throw money at things but if you’re impatient and attempting constant quick fixes…
Go study the laws of physics first and read current affairs news on bicarb before you comment. Bicarb is EXTREMELYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY POWERFUL AID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Probably anywhere between 2-5 seconds in the 800m and 3-7 seconds in 1500m!!!!!!!! I was ignorant in the past because I thought I'm the King of the Boards, a know-it-all, which was my downfall because I prevented myself from doing some more research and learning you feelin me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now I'm telling you bicarb is a most under-rated legal PED out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Consume it and you will see all-round benefits for your cells and membranes including a sure cure for erectile dysfunction if it's relevant to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can't tell difference between a PED and regular baking powder? "2-5 seconds in the 800m and 3-7 seconds in the 1500m" you must have lost your mind. Are you just guessing or any hard data to back that up? I know a few coaches lauding its benefits but as far as I know they don't go that far to say 2-5s or 3-7s. The 800m is a sprint event and it won and lost by tenths and hundreths second not 2-5 seconds. I think a good estimate for the baking powder is not more than the difference in time between 1st and 2nd place here.
Uh the regular baking powder is now the PED if you didn’t know that. It is well known that bicarb enhances liver and cerebral metabolism and starves off ageing turning a 27 yr old slow arse into a youthful 21 year old at least. The theory is sound and has been peer reviewed for over 50 years. The only drawback is determining what is the effective threshold for each individual. A blood test and liver check will let your holistic physician know how much bicarbonate your need to consume. At the sweet spot your times can improve by a lot. It’s especially good for guys returning from a long layoff like Jakob.

If you are impatient and attempting constant quick fixes you will be tempted to do drugs. It’s between drugs and bicarb now, either one of this was the trick to Hoey’s unearthly rise to the top. There was a Rinaldi interview on YouTube and I’m convinced after hearing his side of the story that it’s bicarb.
2nd place in one of the greatest 800m fields ever.
1:42.01 moves him up to #11 all-time.
1:42.43 was his previous best.
And he didn't have a perfect trip losing some ground around 200 in.
1. Emmanuel Wanyonyi - KEN - 1:41.44 [MR WL] 2. Josh Hoey - USA - 1:42.01 [PB] 3. Djamel Sedjati - ALG - 1:42.20 [SB] 4. Peter Bol - AUS - 1:42.55 [AR] 5. Marco Arop - CAN - 1:42.73 [SB] 6. Slimane Moula - ALG - 1:42.86 7. Bryce Hoppel - USA - 1:43.51 8. Tshepiso Masalela - BOT - 1:43.82 9. Mohamed Attaoui - ESP - 1:43.99 10. Gabriel Tual - FRA - 1:44.17 11. Max Burgin - GBR - 1:47.71 DNF. Patryk Sieradzki - POL - DNF
Are you trippin? Greatest 800m fields ever? No WR, only 1 PB, Max Burgin blowing up big, only 2 SBs? I would expect to see 11 PBs for each and every single and the WR for the 1st guy.
He didn't lose any ground at the 200m mark. That was a nothing burger, just a mountain out of a molehill for you here? It's not even on par with Hocker's trip up with Kessler at Pre classic last year, he sidestepped without completely going to a halt and resumed the race and had lots of time to run comfortable the rest of the journey. He did not sidestepped in the final 50m of the race so what are you talking about?
Wejo we expect better and more accurate field reporting and description from a veteran like you. This is quite clumsy and off target from you.
Pretty sure the OP is skilled at the art of hyperbole. There was nothing that averse about Hoey’s situation in the race. He didn’t get hurt lose balance or hit the ground. It may have been a great field of runners but I consider 2012 olympics to be the greatest of all time. Still not broken till this day I’m not counting on Wanyonyi to do it as he’s stride is too small. He is too short. WR holders all had long legs and tall frame. The short ones all turned out either doling or just wither away

Compare Hoey and Alvarado with Brazier and Hoppel.
Hoey was tracking Brazier from 16 to 18 and has finally caught up with Brazier's age 22 progress at age 25.
Alvarado was tracking Hoppel from 17 to 20 and may yet catch up with Hoppel's age 26 progress in his early 30s, although father time is possibly against him (cf. Peter Bol).
So for both Hoey and Alvarado we have stagnant progress curves for a number of years followed by a swoop down, AKA the release of pent-up progression. Hoey's swoop is just more dramatic.
Then we have other progress curves, such as linear progress (Koech), that don't have dramatic drops. But the Hoey-type curve generates the most consternation, even though it's just one of many types that exist.
7 years with a 1:47 PB & now .02 away from sub-1:42. Almost unbelievable. I think 3-0 against Bryce Hoppel in DL races when he had never really been close to him in prior years.
To be fair,he ran 1.47 as an 18 year old, which shows real talent. Surely he should be able to run at least under 1.45 as a senior, unless he peaked too young. Strange that he was stuck at 1.47 for all those years, although i read he was injured, and changed coaches a lot.
1:47x at 18 doesn't show "real talent". That is 1:41.73 that an 18 year old Amos ran in London 2012. But he did eventually get busted. And now Hoey is only a couple of strides away.

Baking powder is not a ped. If it was it would have been used over 60 years ago and would certainly have been banned long ago.

1:47 at 18 says you could become pretty good later on(especially if you started running at like 15) but yeah that 1:41 by Amos is just ridiculous. I've never kept up with him so do we know if he was an age doper as well?

You are obviously poor. And you are jealous of people with money, just like the rest who feel Hoey doesn’t deserve success or shouldn’t even be allowed to have talent simply because he comes from a wealthy background. You are poor and will never get anywhere with that type of thinking.
In before the inevitable post(s) stating you (and the other jealous posters in the thread) are all high rolling stock wizards or MDs with lucrative medical patents, etc. You jealous poors need to get real jobs.

Amos’s agent admitted Amos was 23 in London, for what it’s worth. That means he was a ridiculous age cheat in the junior and youth champs he competed in. But it’s still a very different situation from Hoey, whom Armstronglivs hates because he’s well to do and an American (not necessarily in that order) while he is old and on the dole in NZ. “1:47 at 18 doesn’t show ‘real talent’.” Utter buffoon. And very jealous.

Only a little more than three thousand men have ever run inside 1:48.00, out of the unknowable millions whom have tried their hand at our sport. A performance at the level, at any age, requires some measure of talent.

It isn't about jealousy. I simply recognise doping is the usual reliable explanation for what occurs at the top of the sport now. It isn't confined to Americans - but they are doing their best to keep up.

The "talent" being referred to is of those who are at the very top of the sport. That isn't simply a good college athlete.

His background is irrelevant. He could be a Kenyan cattleherder and doing the same - and probably would be.
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are the most comical one sir, I will put my neck under the guillotine right now that Hoey is clean as a virgin you feelin me. Yes I understand he made a 5 second improvement but that was AFTER accounting for super shoes, doped track surfaces and the miracle supplment bicarb you feelin me!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wanyonyi is also clean but I assess that he doesn't have what it takes to hold the 800m WR. He will certainly dominate for a while though!!!!!!!!
Remember my words here and take a screenshot so that you can review it 10 years from now and go "Khamis was right...........he knew........he saw ahead of space-time......"
Cheers

Hoey ran really smart as Sedjati/Arop completely overthought it. Prepare to go out hard and hang with Wanyonyi as long as possible.
Dear Noah dear, don't you think that the 800m has hit a bit of a snarl this year compared to last year. This time last year the best time for 800m was already under 1:41:20 by Sedjati but it's only 1:41:44 now which is really a distance away!!!!!!!!!!!!! And with the way Wanyonyi gritted and faltered to the finish line running so slowly don't we all wonder if 1:40:91 will ever last as long as 25 years like the 1500m and mile WRs?????????????????? Wanyonyi looked pretty dejected after the race, he knew it's too difficult for him to go under 1:40:90!!!!!!!!!!!! 1:40:8x is just not for him!!!!!!!!
I just have a very good feeling that Rudisha's WR will be one of the unbeatables, I'm pretty locked in on that, only time will tell!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I already locked in my love Hicham El Kingdom Triple Love Guerrouj's 1500m WR at least for another 75 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How about that Noah!!!!!!!!!!!!
