I think the record won’t fall because no one is going to push the pace from 3k to 4.6k because there will be too many runners still in the mix. With 400 to go they will be at 11:42 and no one is going to be able to kick in a 53.5 at that point. So I think it will be won in 12:37.
What are Hagos's and Yomif's PR's? So Grant is going to get the WR over 12:36 and 12:38 runners? Why can't you make the same argument for these guys? LRC if so full of absolute stupidity. It is definitely a "special" site for sure.
I’m not basing my predictions off of only PR. Grant beat both Geb and Kejelcha last year when it counted because he was in near world record shape. After the Olympic 10k in Paris, Cheptegei said he was in WR 10k shape. That’s the fitness level you need to be in these days to win gold. Add to that the fact that fisher soloed a 12:44 with a stated goal of just breaking 12:49. He could have run sub 12:40 back then with correct pacing.
It isn't possible for me or anyone to keep Ingebrigtsen in the discussion without the agitated responses of fanboys like you.
You are stupid. I am not a fanboy. You are. Never liked Jakob. Too arrogant. Even if I recognize his incredible talent. You? You think about him every day of your life. You get very agitated when you read his name. Bless you.
I only think about him on running threads and there are more about him than any other athlete. His fanboys see to that. What is fun is to wind them up. The way you are.
Does anyone know what the biggest advance in the 5000m WR hasbeen? Seems like asking Jakob to break it by 5 or more seconds is a bit much
Well he broke the 3000m WR by 3 seconds. 5 seems ok to me in the 5000. Well, maybe not, just being silly, but he should be able to break it.
It's a considerably longer event. Since he is mainly a 1500 runner - like El G, who nonetheless beat Bekele in an Olympic 5k - there is no guarantee that he can run a 5k equivalent to his 3k performance. His best of 12:48 doesn't suggest it will be a foregone conclusion he could take the record. His peak distances appear to be the shorter events - 2k-2miles.

What is fun is to wind you up. You argue, you get angry, you lose your temper, and you post more than all his fanboys together. It's too easy to have you write post after post obsessively like you are doing now. You never disappoint. 😄 Don't forget to reply!
So you don´t think Jakob can improve 2 seconds in the 3000m for the rest of his career?!
Are you a member of the "Jakob has peaked" club"?
Well he’s not gonna run his fastest 3k at the end of his career.
It seems like with you, Jakob could run, say, 7:15.7 in September ‘26, and you’d assume 7:13 was a foregone conclusion and anyone who thought otherwise was an ignorant hater.
I know one thing: he cannot improve indefinitely.
Aren´t you a member of the club too JWH ? (at least if we call it the "Jakob has ALMOST peaked" club).
I´m not talking about how much he can improve in the END of his career but how much he can improve from age 23 in the 3000m.
I understand that you don´t think there is much room for improvement but I know that you have underestimated Jakob for years so why should your pessimism turn out right now?
AND I know that your compatriots Fisher, Elle St. Pierre and Monson improved significantly in significantly in the 3000m after the age of 23:
Fisher: 14.30 sec from 23 to 27.
St. Pierre: 25.56 sec from 23 to 29
Monson: 15 sec from 23 to 25.
And many more top runners, including East Africans, have made big jumps after the age of 23 as well.
I´m not postulating that Jakob can make such big jumps but to assume he has almost finished improving seems unwarranted.

Well I don’t feel any regret or embarrassment for not expecting, 5 years ago, that he would run 7:17. I remember after Jakob lost to Wightman in Eugene, I predicted he would win the 5k when a lot of people were claiming that the Ethiopians and Ugandans would spank him; he’s been my (incorrect) pick to win 1500 golds in each of the last 3 years; I predicted he would break the WRs in the 2k, 3k and 2-mile in all of those attempts. I think I’ve given him credit.
I don’t think he’ll ever run a 7:15 3k. Go ahead and put me in the “Jakob has almost peaked” club if you want, that’s fine. Often throughout athletics history, when guys have incredible record-breaking years like Jakob has enjoyed the past two seasons, they are near their career peak. There’s also just the unlikelihood of Jakob becoming even more of a statistical outlier than he already is.
I think he can break the mile WR and 5k WR but there’s a decent chance that years from now, when all is said and done, people will be arguing about what his best performance was: ~3:42, 7:17.55 or ~12:33. I don’t feel like this is me being a hater: he could be the hands-down greatest 1500-10k range runner of all time if he maintains approximately his 2023-2024 level for several more years.
