Guessing this is about average for a not chubby 32-year-old dude. But man, grinding out a marathon like that is brutal.
Back in our late 20s, a friend and I tackled couch-to-Rim-to-Rim on a total whim. We both ran in high school (he was a hurdler, I did cross-country), but hadn't run in years. We accidentally veered off course, turning it into a 26 mile slog—basically a marathon. Finished in under 7 hours, but let me tell you, R2R is way tougher than any road race. It was pure suffering.
Fast forward to our 40s: with years of consistent training, one of us has clocked a sub-2:40 marathon, the other a sub-3:30. Marathons definitely aren't for fast twitchers.
