The St. Pierres have issued a statement stating all workers were hired legally:
"On April 21, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents detained several of our employees. We do not know the details or reasons at this time. We have cooperated fully with their instructions.
"Our employees were hired following the federal and state employment requirements. We remain supportive of our employees and appreciative of the valuable role they play in our community, performing essential work on our farm.
"We hope this matter is resolved quickly. Any other questions will need to be directed to US Customs and Border agents."

Isn't Purrier - St Pierre MAGA? All these fckn hypocrite farmers hiring migrants and voting Trump. Enjoy the tariffs, suckers!
Yes she is, 100%, which makes this all the more hilarious. Yeah, laughing at people when they are down isn't very nice but I've adopted the when they go low, we go lower policy. She's so racist I'm surprised she would tolerate migrants working for her, but then again, I'm not surprised at all.

Hearing that she’s MAGA is disappointing to me. I was once a fan of hers. No more. I can never support or be a fan of anyone that supports the chucklehead in the Oval Office.
She didn't know who she hired to work on the farm?
No paperwork for taxes, social security, etc?
LOL. She just wanted cheap, off the books labor.
Usually the migrants provide fake numbers. Taxes, SS, do get taken out of their wages. Since they are using a fake SSN, it is free money to the gov't. It is not the employers responsibility to confirm it is a real number. Sometimes, the SS office might send a letter to the employer saying the number for said person is incorrect. The employee then provides another fake number and the cycle begins. This can go on for 2-3 years.
In reality, only migrants are willing to take on these 'back-breaking' jobs for minimal pay. They are not taking jobs away from any US citizen.
You are a moron, they don't use fake ss numbers, undocumented workers are issued an ITIN and they do pay taxes and the IRS knows they are undocumented workers paying taxes. You literally just made up the fake SS thing because that's 100% not a thing.
The operative word is "for minimal pay." Americans will do, and always have done, hard jobs if you pay them enough. Corporations use illegal immigrant labor to save money at the expense of American wages.
What would a fair wage be for daily, meat, and produce farmers? Then Americans will b*tch when milk, cheese, beef, poultry, eggs, fruits and veggies are unaffordable for most. Migrant workers rally the MA6A base, but the reality of the economic contribution to our economy is immense. It's a serious conversation that needs serious adults and there's not many in DC these days.
But for decades democrats told us higher prices due to raising minimum wage would HELP the economy and everyone would be better off despite slightly higher prices.
Right now, the corporations are banking RECORD profits off the backs of illegal immigrants making slave wages. The illegal immigrants are sending their earnings back to their family in their home country, their earnings are not being put back into the American economy. And we are near RECORD high levels of Americans on welfare - meaning Americans aren't getting paid enough to survive without massive amounts of government assistance.
America is SCREWED unless we force American corporations to pay a living wage - to Americans.
For those of you who aren't going to read the article:
ESP's family and the workers have not been accused of any wrongdoing at this point. We'll have to wait for further information before drawing any conclusions.

"Operating since 1986, Pleasant Valley milks over 3,000 cows across 10,000 acres. The farm is owned and operated by Mark and Amanda St. Pierre, with their son Jamie St. Pierre who is also involved in management and is married to Vermont Olympic runner Elle St. Pierre."
I grew up in Enosburg Falls, VT not far away from the St. Pierre farm. When I was there the area was all family own farms, but the St. Pierre’s started increasing their operation and putting all the small farmers out of business. They then started buying up all the farms, turned all the dairy cattle from free ranging to full time in barns, and left everyone without work. My family fixed farm equipment and when we went from 40 farms in the area to 3 we went under too. Never really cared for the St. Pierre’s who changed the way of life in the area.

Interesting. I was working on a farm in upstate ny about 5 years ago that employed many immigrant workers, their legal status unclear to me, many struggling with english, etc. Anyway, they were great workers. Any time I had to do a job with them, I knew I was in for 8 hours of straight grinding, whereas by myself, I could take my time a bit more. I was on minimum wage, but I think most of them were making 18+. Really a great way for them to make money and send some back to their families in Mexico, etc. It is kinda funny that Elle is a Trump fan. Wonder what she thinks about this.
Not sure about dairy farm workers in VT, but in CO many of the ski resorts depend on immigrant labor (legal and illegal). They work in laundry rooms, wash dishes, collect garbage, clean condos, do landscaping, roofing, etc. Jobs very few other people want to do.
They sometimes work shift labor and live in house trailers where three people rotate sleeping in the same bed every 24 hour period.
They get paid minimum wage or less and often love it, as their life is much better than it was (and could have been) from where they came from.
It is so good that their high school aged children often drop out of school to get a job working next to their mom and dad.
For them, they are sort of living a version of the American dream.
Trump himself depends upon immigrants to work at Mar-a-lago.
Prices of everything would double or more if businesses had to pay US born workers to do the jobs immigrants now do (that is if they could actually get US born workers to do those jobs).

This thread got real quite fast…
The next ESP interview should be quite interesting indeed.
Not sure if her being a farmer will come up again during her races

You really believe paragraphs 2&3 describe the American dream for anyone and that their children would drop of school to get any early start? In the movie McFarland, many of the runners went to college and were no longer “pickers”.
Is stuff like this why ESP tends to not open up much? Husband accidentally killed a guy on 2018. And the lawsuit against the farm for environmental stuff
