Wow, just read the coverage in the Guardian. Gjert sounds like a monster. I’m sure some others will testify that he was a nice guy, always treated the kids well, bought them ice cream on their birthdays, blah, blah, blah. Hope Jakob and his sibs can overcome all of this and lead happy and fulfilling adult lives. The question for Jakob someday would be, would he trade away all of his T&F accomplishments to have a nice and supportive dad? Does he think he’d be the same runner today if he was the product of a healthy home life? Would he even be a runner??
It sounds like you've made up your mind before the trial even started to treat negative portrayals of Gjert as truth and dismiss all the positive ones as "blah". Good thing you're not a juror!
Jakob's testimony comes across to me as manufactured and petty. Refusing to recount any good times he had with his father, and going into an irrelevant rant about Gjert not always letting Elisabeth stay over when they were minors. Jakob said, "He actively tried to sabotage the relationship. He ordered her to go home when she visited, and stood in the way of our relationship." I didn't realize it was a crime to not let your underage son's girlfriend sleep over whenever they wanted.
How can it both be manufactured and be about things that are not a crime and irrelevant for the case? That sounds weird to me.
Mass Murder Anders Brevik got 20 something years in prison for a mass murder.
How much prison do you get for assault with a towel?
"Gjert was indicted on physical and emotional abuse charges against Jakob, which were alleged to have occurred over a decade from 2008 to 2018"
If the only abuse you remember after reading the article is the towel thing, then you might have a problem. It seems quite obvious than the prolonged emotional abuse on most (all?) of the siblings is the main reason why this case was brought to court.
It’s also important to note that Gjert abuse on their younger sister Ingrid has been the trigger for Kristoffer, Henrik, Filip and Jakob to bring the case forward.
That only makes you people look weirder.
"Emotional abuse" isn't a felony. Not something punishable by years in prison. If the kids were still minors, the state could separate them, but that's about all a normal legal system would do about it.
If you'd really like to be triggered, I'd say this is a side effect of having a state religion.

Definitely not a juror….so no, I’m not impartial and don’t need to be. My strong inclination is to believe Jakob and his sibs.
Also, pointing out again that the threshold for what constitutes child abuse in Norway is much lower than the USA. Maybe for the good, maybe not.

Emotional abuse, or psychological abuse, part of coercive control, as a domestic violence tool, and the start of most physical domestic violence issues, is not usually directly punishable but is taken into account, and can be punishable when it breaks a court order.
They are not weird, it probably explains why you guys are so crazy.
The most important witness in this trial is going to be Tone. I'm very interested to hear what she says.
it's very likely that she won't say anything as she doesn't have to. As the spouse of the accused she doesn't have to give a statement; additionally ,as a parent of the victim she also has no requirement to be give any statement to the court.
Really? It’s the same rule as in the US. That’s very surprising

Why is your inclination to believe Jakob and some of his sibs (remember, not all the sibs are aligned)? Is it because you're a fan of Jakob as a runner? Just because someone is a great runner, that doesn't mean they are the most truthful person.
One of the questions I ask when a public person makes an allegation of another public person is: Does the accuser have anything to gain from making the allegations? In this case, I believe Jakob has much to gain from making Gjert look like a villain. That is a reason to question his testimony.
It all broke right after the Olympics in 2021, so whatever happened was what he did to the young girl. Whatever her did ethe brothers said oh hell no, it was the straw that broke the camels back. Jakob may have let this lie for the rest of his life, but when it happened to his little sister, game over!

I don’t see what Jakob has to gain? He’s accusing his dad of child abuse to assert that his running success is his alone? That doesn’t make sense regardless, and now we would have to believe Jakob. (And his sibs) are sociopaths willing to send a parent to prison so they get more credit for their medals?? Also, all throughout this process Jakob has been a reluctant witness. He wasn’t quick to make these accusations against his dad. No the children’s story is deeply believable. obviously, I don’t know for sure, but it rings very true to me.
I think this whole ordeal will further contribute to a historic season from Jakob.
I precict he will break both of Hicham El Guerrouj's remaining world records this summer, channeling his anger & frustration regarding this trial and losses at previous global finals into the ultimate performance.
imagine thinking that thorough consideration of information in a justice system for a high profile case is a waste of resources in a country where violence is highly frowned upon. moron.

Never mind violence. "Emotional abuse" is a felony there.
I'd say Norway's Viking ancestors would be rolling over in their graves, to see this hurt-feelings trial. But realistically, they have no Norwegian descendants. Norwegians are descended from the ones left behind, those unfit to vike.

4) It's ridiculous this trial is going to last 7 weeks. That is an incredible waste of government resources and time.
Do you know what the prosecution and defence have indicated will be presented? How much affidavits, witrnesses called, expert testimonies etc etc??
You don't have a 7 week trial for an alleged minor crime like this. It's not minor to Jakob or his sister but in the grand scheme of things it's extremely minor. Even some police officers have complained about it apparently.
From a Norwegian website:
Lawyer Heidi Reisvang points out that an unusually large number of police investigators have been used on this case, something police officers themselves have reacted to to NRK .
- Few people can dream of such a fast case processing time and such a high priority as has been seen in this case. It raises questions about whether the case has a touch of prestige for the prosecution, and whether in their eagerness to solve the case they have lost the objectivity and sobriety expected of a public prosecution, says Reisvang in court.
- In our view, the sheer scope of the case and the seven or eight weeks that have been allocated to the case show this. It is quite unusual for so many weeks to be spent in court on similar cases. And the fact that the volume is so large leaves the impression that this is an enormous case that needs to be dealt with, when the evidence we have to deal with here is quite limited, she says.
Justice should be blind. You shouldn't go all out simply because someone is a celebrity.
"Everything was controlled and decided for me. There was an enormous amount of manipulation. As a teenager I felt I had no free will or say in anything."
uhh that's every childhood on earth. you aren't independent until you become an adult. why is this anywhere near a courtroom?
brothers were willing until something came up w sister.
my mother hit my sisters but I never took her to court. If I talked back to her I’d get smacked too, we knew it but sisters too dumb to listen.
how many hits does Jacob and Trump generate for Letsrun. a couple of million?
you can monetize that.
its the muck raking news business after all.
letsrun does pretty well to stay out of the muck being a kind of pirate type organization.
worth of the web for letsrun.com Estimated pageviews per month: 4,801,950
that's cash amigo.
and regarding politics, the new wave is not left right, is anti corruption and waste, common sense, and get rid of useless regulations. that is what people want.

Thanks for the reply. That seems a pretty stock standard complaint by a defence lawyer in a case like this. She would be derelict in duties had she not.
The prosecution obviously think more time is required, the defence wants as little as possible to be raise, and as little witnesses testifying
