Can you imagine Coogan wearing a faux fur jacket, screaming and jumping up and down trackside? It just wouldn't suit him. Mark is your archetypal reserved New Englander with a snarky sense of humor. I think it's a good match with Valby's personality.
Mike Smith is also allegedly from Mass but I have a hard time seeing it. He must have spent some time in a surfer commune or something.
Mike Smith is city like not close to being west coast surfer. The dude is emo
Mike Smith is so emo 🖤 he dresses in all black all the time. He might be goth more than a surfer
WHOA! where is all this Coogan hate coming from? I honestly don't know anything about the guy except that he seems to get solid results. I guess I should youtube some interviews.
but this sounds like you're damned if yuh do, damned if you don't. This place hates Brosnan and Diljeet for too much personality. Coogan has no personality. blah blah
Mark Coogan is arguably one of the best coaches in the world and has the resume to back it up both as an athlete and coach. Brosnan has only shown to be an exceptional high school coach and needs to prove himself at the college level and or pro level. Diljeet? Too much personality? Who said she has too much personality? Obnoxious? Oh yeah!!! Just go to You Tube and watch her at NCAA's last weekend. AGAIN...she's a great coach, but a bit over the top and attention seeking. This isn't a put down, just an opinion. Nothing more, Nothing less.
"If something is obnoxious, it's annoying and unpleasant. Yelling and stomping your feet is obnoxious".
She’s doing the best she can with what her body is capable of. What more do you want?
I don't want anything. I just observe that even with low mileage and cross training it seems she can't avoid injury. If so, that's a frail athlete.
We don’t know:
a) whether she is injured.
b) her current weekly mileage.
Prior to her last race; she said she went over 50 in Flagstaff, but the interviewer had to pry it out of her. I don’t think she pays much attention to her mpw numbers. You’re probably more focused on that than she is.

An elite athlete not focused on their training? Really?
An elite athlete not focused on their training? Really?
He didn’t say that. He said not focused on her mpw. Which isn’t uncommon. At my peak I was consistently running 75-85 mpw but that number wasn’t the goal or the determining factor in the training, it was the workouts themselves. I only knew my mileage by adding it up myself and not everyone on the team even cared.
She's only turning 23 this year and made the Olympics last year. My guess is that Her and her coaches aren't really focused on 2025 compared to 2027-2028 when she has to get into and compete in the Olympics again. Additionally, she just went pro in October so it would seem that Coogan isn't in a rush for her to be racing at the volume she did in 2024 (87.6 km). I don't expect to see Graham Blanks (81 km) to touch his 2024 racing volume either. The college racing schedule is brutal so there isn't a rush for them, considering they were already Olympians.
She runs, in case you don't know. And of course you don't know it.
30mpw. Very fragile.
I run 30 mpw although I am not competing. Don’t know if it’s necessary for Valby to change anything, as it’s has been working really well for her last year.

On the other hand, maybe it was all that racing that helped them make the Olympic team.

I’m sure they’ll race more in 2027. It’s just not sustainable to do that in 2024, 2025, 2026, 2027, and 2028 after just leaving college. Probably a lot of foundational decisions being made for the training that builds towards the Olympics.

Besides Viren, I don’t recall athletes that would that would back off during a season. Won’t her sponsor want her to run fast, and improve times and placement in championship races? She won’t be in her prime age forever, so it would be a shame to waste a season.
