cos old mate's been posting steadily on YouTube with the aim of bringing Japanese marathon culture to westerners, & also working with Tempo Japan (local media company working on sharing Japanese running culture online). Jake's currently never been selected to run for his country etc and this is his goal race to go pro, and he's in the elite field. no coach and no sponsor (until very recently).
just seems like an interesting bloke, tbh. and lots of online support for him.
Kebede hits halfway in 66:20. Tigist Keteam 67:51. Wanjiru and 7 others (up through place 10 at 68:23-68:25). One of those women is Chinese. The top Japanese women Yuka Ando is all alone in 11th at 70:06.

You gotta love this Rojo guy. He is watching the 5 and 10 world record holder in his 2nd marathon and he is possibly getting apoplectic or apocalyptic, or both, over non-binary divisions.
There is a 20 second gap between his group and the group ahead. It will be hard to bridge that gap. However, people will start falling off that group in a few minutes
Still 56 guys in sub 60min at 20km. Let the carnage begin
Now down to 45 guys below 75 min at 25km. Rate of attrition will now go exponential
I know FloTrack dropped the feed early in the race so it's not a perfect broadcast on their end. But everything else about it is pretty awesome. No commercials. Minimal coverage of wheelchair race. Cameras for lead pack AND chase packs. Clock and live distance tracker on the screen at all times. And Brett Larner knows his stuff.
