I don't understand why Houlihan didn't push the pace and just left it up to a kicker's duel against Hiltz. Hiltz is a damn fast miler with a great kick.
She tried increasing the pace gradually. Check her 1,000m splits: 3:07, 2:59, 2:41
Her last 1,200 was 34.82, 34.35, 33.91, 33.15, 30.52, 29.35

Hiltz reminds me of Woody Kincaid, Hiltz always sits and kicks. However, the fact that the kick is ALWAYS there means the kick is legit.
Shelby vs Nikki this year will make American Distance running even more entertaining.

Rupp never got his doors blown off in a slow race to the extent that it continues to happen with KT. KT was always a grinder but the grinders now can run 2 secs faster per lap and then drop a sub 60 400m. Valby has no kick, KT gives up.

i think this race most likely shows she just isn't any fitter than what she showed in the 8:48 a couple weeks ago. If she was in 8:35 shape, she probably looks a little better on that last lap.
also doesn't help that she spent almost the entire race straddling lane 1 and 2.

I wouldn't call Tuohy done, she's just still figuring out pro racing after a long time off. She (and most of the others) went out really slow, and Tuohy's 1k splits got faster and faster each time.

2:41 last K isn't really slow. In February. And 5 seconds isn't a lot in a 3K in February.
Time to worry about Tuohy seriously. The Top three finishers took a whole 5 seconds off her in the final 200m…in a slow race too. That’s terrible.
She needs a new coaching set up, and probably to live and train at altitude pronto. Absolutely everything needs to be re-done here.
Its very concerning. She blew up the last 100m, 17.9 seconds. In a slow race. Her coaching "teammate" Steelman came in last place... what is going on there?

Hiltz was born as a woman and runs in Women's races. What do you want? What people want to be called has nothing to do with respecting the integrity of gendered sports competitions--Men's and Women's races. Hiltz won fair and square (which will always remain a question mark for Burrito Girl).
