Jakob didn't lose the last Olympic final because he lacked acceleration in the final 100m. He lost because he had less in the tank than his competitors (largely due to his attempt to lead wire to wire).
I don't know if you guys have all raced a lot of 1500s, but your acceleration and raw 400 speed really don't matter when you are locking up in the last 250. Your overall fitness is what matters most.
These things matter in slow championship races where you are ~10 seconds off your personal best and everyone is fresh. In those cases, positioning, acceleration, and raw speed do matter (and probably in that order). In a race where everyone is within a couple seconds of their best, overall fitness and overall race execution (conserving energy, having a lane to make your home run in) matter far more.
He didn't lose because he had less in the tank. (This is the 7:17 guy, remember.) He lost because 3 other guys had faster finishes than he does.
You're all saying the same thing and just being stubborn about acknowledging the other is right. Its annoying. He got outkicked. Everyone knows that. His kick was also compromised from leading. You have to agree with that if you've ever run competitively in your life. So both statements are correct. The poster who said Jacob doesn't have a kicking problem but a tactics problem hit the nail on the head. When Jacob doesn't lead he often kicks better than anyone in the field.
It’s the other say around. Jakob has a kicking problem which forces him into a tactical problem. His kick was intentionally compromised by him leading because the goal was to 1) either win by a healthy margin or 2) compromise the faster kickers kicks behind him.
He intentionally tried to burn the kicks of others because a slow race does not favor him.
Even Jakob’s biggest advocates are saying he should burn the last 800m like El G did — another burn the kick off strategy.
The reason why people say he can’t kick is mostly due him being a one trick pony - albeit an excellent one.
Think of this way — in a Centro-style race, where do you see Jakob finishing?
getting outkicked by a couple different individuals over a few different races is not the same as "everyone but Jakob has a really good kick." Jakob hasn't outkicked all these guys at some point not with just 400 to go. but with 200 to go and 100 to go as well. And wasn't just the difference of "he had to big of a lead to catch him."
Wightman is a one hit wonder. Hocker I agree can be special. I'll even grant you Kerr, though I think Jakob can outkick him if he sets it up right. Everyone else, Jakob has outkicked way more than they have on him.
"Everyone else" is just terrible analysis of the competitors in the event.
When Jakob did his 3:27.14 in Silesia, his final 100m was covered in 13.3
His 3:30.37 in Brussels had a final 100m of 12.9
His semi-final in Budapest (3:34.98) had a final 100m of 12.47
And in Lausanne last year, it seemed like Jakob had no problem outkicking both Hocker and Kessler by a comfortable margin. Pretty close between the three of them with 150m remaining, and he still beat Hocker with 2.02s and Kessler with 2.64s.
Jakob is not the slowpoke that so many makes him out to be.

He can't win the races that matter because of an inferior kick to those who beat him.

that is a world class kick.
But it still doesn't enable him to win against the best kickers in the biggest races.

Facts that a lot of people will ignore for whatever opinion they have.
Kessler has raced Ingebrigtsen twice over 1,500m, both in 2024, both in "big" races (Olympic final, DL Final).
Final 100m: Olympics: JI - 13.8; HK - 14.0 DL Final: JI - 13.3; HK - 14.9
I am of the opinion that all sub 3:30 guys have a good kick. Can Jakob outkick the field at 100% success rate? Clearly, no. But there is not a single athlete that has demonstrated the ability to regularly outkick him.
Yeah man, Hocker’s ability to change his rate of acceleration is really good. He lost momentum after being cut off by Jakob, but revved it back up in such a short distance. It was beautiful.
I wonder if Hocker being short helps with that. Typically, the taller the runner, the slower the change of gears
although yes, it is definitely a kind of weird way to say Hocker is more nimble, but if you wanna be pedantic it definitely exists lol
if you measure something hard enough you can find the rate of change of rate of change of rate of change of ....... rate of change of the position.
Thank you Mr Ning for backing me up. It took a Chinese citizen ( I assume) together with a Spanish citizen (me) to teach los Americanos how to do physics! 🥲🥲🥲
I was right after all. I was credible. I was ON POINT!! I earned your trust guys!!

Then why can’t the pigmies of the earth standing at 100cm tall not win the race or become elite champions with their short legs?
you demonstrated no conception of the laws of physics and of space and time when you make such sweeping statements! 😞😞😞
It’s not about short legs, it’s about natural health and strength!!

Exactly sweetheart! This space-time attribute alone completely overwrites all his credibility as a kicker in regular non championship races. The DL final is not a board certified championship race. It’s an end of season siesta for making up the numbers and lacking any real raison detre!
Only the Olympics and world champs ever counted as real finals!

Exactamente siempre! De acuerdo con ti. Jakob doesn’t have a kick under severe pressure. He still retains one under slight pressure like diamond league finals and races. Paced races matter slightly less but it’s all about handling pressure in the nervous system.
Bernard Lagat the cleanest American mercenary ever existed once said:
”I don’t know WTH when people say about being nervous before a race. I’m a Kenyan and in Kenya we don’t have such ‘thing’ or ‘sensation’ as nervous. We don’t know how it feels, it’s strange and it’s foreign to me. The night before the race and on the start line I only feel ready to fight. ( he is trying to imply nerves are for irradiated and electrified modern human beings but wasn’t aware of it).
Colby Lowe once said in retort to Dave Smith during a end of race interview at OK state:
”Night before the race Dave would get all iffy and talk weird at the team talks. He would tell us all to relax and stay calm and don’t be anxious for nothing and me and German be like WTF is this guy talking about? I have never felt the compulsion to be anxious and nervous before a race because it’s just not written in my DNA. For me a race is fun and enjoyment and not something to be scared of or worried sick for nothing”
This was roughly what Lagat and Lowe said on the topic of nerves.
Nerves is in your environmental physical upbringing. Guys that need to face lions daily in the game reserves can hardly feel one ounce of fear when they square up with a human being.
Make sense?
Google it and find their exact statements! You can trust me on this.
