I have spoken to Ingrid Kristiansen, and the only crosstraining she did was xc skiing and the main reason why she did that was practical. Try running in Norway in the winter and you will understand what I mean.
not entirely sure what you're trying to say, honestly
super cool you've gotten the chance to speak with her, though
i'd love to interview her
You make it sound like adding a ton of crosstraining is superior to just running, and take Kristiansen as an example.
Parker's supposed training is a huge net positive for distance runners, as we have a huge problem with injured runners insisting on running through injuries in order to maintain fitness. SHe is showing the world that it is possible to temporarily maintain a high level of fitness through cross training.
And believe me, nobody wants to go into permanent cross training mode if they don't have to. Every kid who I've ever put on an elliptical can't wait to get back to running.
And FWIW, Grant hugely benefited from cross training when he went down to injury in 2023.
PV has actually ruined the future of USA women's running by training on a Elliptical.
Why? Copy what a Olympic 2x time 3x medal 1500,5,k10k and thon winner does.
I bet Sifan doesn't care about the newest MAC lipstick color.

dude, wtf are you talking about?
Just by your 1st word typed "dude"....you are dumb as rocks.
RUNNER "A" ( training 100% running based) Ethiopian Nurse.
2020 Oly 1500 bronze, 5k gold, 10k gold.
2024 Oly 1500 Bronze, 5k bronze.Thon gold.
RUNNER "B" (training majority cross with little running) Blonde model social media ect.
NCAA champ 6 time (Suzy had 9)
2024 Oly no medal 11th.
VERY SIMPLE take your time... which training methods will USA teenage girls copy. "A" or "B" ?
Lastly, IF you have gf ask her what MAC color ways were for this Holiday? Or just IM runner "B" because runner "A" is doing a morning 10k shake out @5:20 NOT on a elliptical.

Scannell rocks.
Except you left out that Sifan didn’t medal in her first Olympics, when she was 23 (older than Valby)

Good point. Would be interesting to compare age progression times.
That would make 3 total Olympics. 2016 800 15th and 800 5th
I also didn't include any of Sifan DL and WC. Lets see how PV does in 2025 WC and DL.
Its going to take more than just elliptical training to get to Sifan level.
Bottom line Mark and PV have a lot of work in front of them just to get PV in contention. Especially how fragile PV is injury prone at such a "young" age.
Again, I stand by what message is being portrayed to our young USA teenage runners.Shoe companies gotta sell shoes to make a buck. Hopefully PV dad got a good "front end" contract.
Was looking at the old Grant Fisher thread that someone started here but found this funny part at the end about Valby, thoughts?
I would say if he doesn't know why she is so popular a very attractive blonde with a good peronality who does lots of interviews, who has re-written the record books in the NCAA and pulled off one feat after another that everyone said she couldn't do......then he isn't too bright, or is lying, or is jealous. It's one of the 3.
We all know 100% he came up to her and tried to fanboy her and she ignored him. Most old men who LOVe coaching young people love the power dynamic and she didn’t play along

tried to make it clear Ingrid put in way more running volume than Parker ever has
she did about 100-120 week much of the year, brought it down closer to 70 and added XC-Skiing when the weather made sense to do so
i would say cross-training accounting for 25-50% of total volume capacity (realizing non-impact volume = 2.618x impact volume) during the most extreme months (be it cold or super hot) of the year is a great way for runners to get a little bit of a mental break from the usual grind, but also some relief for the connective tissue and there is the possibility one could learn to use their body a little better and thus slightly increase overall athleticism

And there are genetic differences and work ethics issues we have to consider. If A tries to copy B, A should see lower ceiling coming with more guaranteed growth. If B tries to copy A, B will not be able to finish two consecutive training blocks without getting injured.
Runner B can stay with B training plan because a “good” time will be enough to achieve commercial success. For runner A, the only way to be successful is to push beyond limit and stay on top of the world. That can only be achieved through hard work and plan A.
For other people, I think B method makes more sense because it is safer. There is no difference between the times unless you are running world record times.
Was looking at the old Grant Fisher thread that someone started here but found this funny part at the end about Valby, thoughts?
Mike has been around a long time, and he has a ton of training knowledge, but who else has he trained besides Grant? Don't forget Grants 4 years with Miltenberg at Stanford and the 3-4 years with Schumacher at BTC. Both of these coaches have had a major influence on Grants development and success. That being said, Mike's comments are not far off but are a bit critical of Valby. Parker needed to do what was necessary to stay healthy training wise, and she successfully pulled it off. As I previously posted before she joined Mark at New Balance Boston, she needs to be very careful in re-adjusting and increasing her training load, which will be necessary for her to be successful at the next level. Mark is the PERFECT coach for her to achieve this. He will slowly ramp up her training both with mileage and intensity over time. Valby will be on a 4-year plan gearing up for L.A. 2028, and without doubt will encounter some setbacks. There will be some trial and error which will be unavoidable so as to find the ideal program that is best for her. Valby is in the BEST situation at this time, and if all goes as planned, she will be a world beater at some point.
As the old saying goes, "you learn most from your failures, and how you respond and correct them determines how successful you will be".

If that's the case then why has Grant spoken so highly of their relationship, one he describes as being cooperative and that of two equals?

Agreed. If you continue watching the lecture Mike goes on to say that he was very self critical as a runner and considered himself a failure, but believes his failures as an athlete taught him enough to be a better coach.
Also urges that his runners focus on building their self confidence and knowing / acknowledging their strengths to deal with the self doubt that poor races or training can bring.
PV is an earthbound angel and can do no wrong. Mike Scannell on the other hand, realized he had a nugget tangled in his ass hair over the weekend during his weekly shower.
