Getting rid of daylight savings will be unpopular but standard time is actually more natural for us and there are fewer accidents and more longevity supposedly with standard time. But I think Trump would do this just because he thinks it would increase energy use, and hence, fossil fuel use and pollution.

The Chinese solution would be better. You stop caring about time. Your work starts a X and ends at Y. Every phone call and meeting are schedules based on when someone else is available. A company in the East knowns that one in the West starts at a certain time and sets up a meeting (no time zone math is involved). The U.S. does the same thing, but Americans are haven't figured it out yet.

Zulu Times. The military and plane flights have been doing this forever. The last thing they want are people doing mental gymnastics to figure if the plane flying at them is arriving in an hour or in a few seconds. Or troops on the ground learning the area they are in is being bombed at 1300.
Every county, city, state gets to set their own work start/end day times. If you want to talk with some at 10 it is at 10 regardless of where they are in the world. You need 24 hour clocks, so 10 pm is 22. I set my computer (a Macbook) to use a 24 hour clock over a decade ago ... I like it a lot better than AM/PM.

Oh that is a terrible idea. It can work well for military where things are strictly regimented. But with time zones you have some idea of what other people will be doing at any time. You want to talk to someone in the UK at 10, it is at 10, But are they awake? Are they asleep? Are they in work hours or is it the middle of their goddamn night? Or Japan? Or Australia? You now have no idea.
It's interesting that Rubio (who Trump nominated for Sec of State) has been trying to get congress to make DST permanent for years but it keeps failing. I don't care if they change it to Middle Earth Time, just lock the clock!

I do somewhat the darkness for young school kids in the morning if we went DST all year round. But I feel the loss of evening daylight in spring and fall for runners cyclist & hikers etc probably would result more accidents on that end.
Also what about economic hit to recreation depending on after work daylight. golf courses for example. But at least it will me light in July at 4am. That will so helpful
Exactly, we need DST all year round. Dark afternoons are far more depressing than early mornings darker for longer. Dark early mornings hold the optimism of oncoming light but dark afternoons bring the entirety of your being down.
Those morons in question appear to be people who think we use less power or reduce road accidents with DT, which is idiotic. The only weak but somewhat plausible argument I’ve heard is kids have to board the school bus in the dark in the morning, but it’s far from clear that that increases kids getting run over by reckless drivers who can’t see in the dark.
I also wouldn’t mind splitting the difference between DT and DST and keeping it same all year round coz even a half hour more sunlight in the afternoon is good, and not having the sudden change is good.
Seems like one complaint people in the northeast had in 1974 with year-round DST was that some places didn’t get light till 8:30am or even later. The latest official sunrise time in my NE location is 7:15am with DT and it takes some more time after sunrise for it to be fully daylight, so that’s plausible. But splitting the difference can’t be that bad.

The light is visible for a good 30 min before “sunrise” all the way over a horizon.

I think if we would just move all clocks 30 minutes this Spring, and leave them there forever, it would be the best way to split the difference to make it work out better for everyone.
I saw a chart recently of what times the sun sets in the Eastern-most parts of every time zone now, and it was crazy early for the furthest northeastern parts of each TZ.
