2025 MIAC Track & Field Thread

I’m trying to imagine a scenario where Rick’s would be ok with any Ole opening or closing any door at Carleton. The man would lose his mind. I’m guessing it was hot for Power’s racers and they tried to cool it down. Not the worst thing. It looks like some Carls raced, so their fan club could have moved to another part of the track.

Are you sure? I'm relatively new to coaching and didn't attend a fancy MIAC school and still think it was pretty easy to find. Wayzata timing is the timer for both Minnesota and Macalester. Minnesota State and St. Olaf appear to be doing the correct format for finals only meets. I don't read where there is any of the wiggle room you suggest.

Hope Nick bought the Gopher Coach dinner for such excellent pacing and helping Mo get his qualifier. Very well done by Power to finally help Mo.

Bati with the best distance double in MIAC history. Now that he’s safely qualified, he can crush mileage and prepare for Nationals.

Power should just be happy Nick brought an athlete of Bati’s caliber and didn’t just stay at Jack Johnson for both races. Hope he comped his entry.

It’s pretty clear Bati was running comfortably last night. Seeing his 3K result confirms he was running easy to conserve his legs for the double.

Matthew Wilkinson, Jake Campbell, Jim Gathje, and Fiona Smith would like a word. 14:15 and 8:18 is very good but not on the scale of what those athletes achieved. He may get there soon though.

Now that is established St. Olaf is the only school using the supposed new rules, what are our next steps for consequence? My daughter was cheated from a better heat and ran well ahead of her poorly seeded counterpart. The other two women looked like they discovered track for the first time an hour before the race. I know MIAC team sports have officials that oversee the sports and referees. It appeared the St. Olaf coach appointed himself lord and dictator. We have another race there this season and I want to make sure she has the best racing opportunities. Her coach is no help, so I am looking for options.

Well the good news is that St. Olaf isn't hosting for a while and they are not hosting conference.

In the meantime, I'd suggest emailing his boss, the MIAC commissioner, and maybe the the AD at your daughter's school. Sadly, this won't be the first time Power's name has come up in emails for those officials.

In more positive news - some weekend highlights -

Landen Liu sets a MIAC record in the 60m dash. He now ranks second in D3 history! Chris Bulwa moves into the the top ten in the country in the 200m and Parent does the same in the 400m. Can't wait to see those three matchup in an 200m soon, maybe at La Crosse next week.

In more closely reading the rules and looking at what other meets did that didn't all have Wayzata timing in common, it looks like the two fast people per heat is the new standard and what schools are expected to do now. The 4 x 400 seeding appears much more muddled, so I can see why hosts would be confused. I'm very curious what sort of penalty exits for hosts who choose to ignore the rules. You can only claim ignorance for another week or so.

Anyone that was in the building Friday night would tell you the atmosphere was great for runners of all abilities. I personally talked to Power and he was excited to hear we had several PR's on our team. He even offered us some leftover pizza his athletes didn't eat.

I'm sorry for the daughter that didn't have the race she wanted Saturday. Luckily it is the first meet of the year. I also feel sorry for her if her dad thinks going to Letsrun or going over the coach's head will help prepare her for life.

That last post is clearly Power posting. No college athlete is doing research on heats or cares what someone’s dad does on Letsrun.
I’ve always wondered if he was a MIAC chat lurker. Bet that makes alumni gatherings with the Edina coach real awkward.

I think the reason people assigned lanes the way they did is the rule really only addresses times from performance lists. Most haven’t raced yet so there is a lot of ambiguity. By late season races I expect it will be more common to follow the rule more closely.

An impressive, but perhaps ill -advised performance. Sometimes I wonder what these coaches are thinking. I’m not so sure that 3K time will make nationals. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Lars run faster after running 8:24 solo two weeks ago. That’s not saying he can beat Bati. But he won’t have a 5K and the drive to and from Northfield in his legs this weekend.

I suspect it was a conference simulation type weekend for Mo. He might race another 3k at some point or just do miles from now until conference. Then he could probably just go as fast as needed in the 5k and try to get a fast 3k or just do a last chance 3k the next week.

~3 seconds faster would have been nice in the 3k, but he got the 5k out of the way and Mo doesn't really have any pressure until conference.

Been following this thread the last few months. Why does everyone hate St. Olaf? or is it just Powers? and why do we hate him?

I also struggle to understand why Olaf people hate powers so much. I know nothing about him. I’m pro Augsburg so it’s awesome that Bati is dominating conference, beyond that it’s a mystery.

(I believe there were some sub ~17 5k guys going to Olaf that apparently Power wouldn’t let join the team is the only possible reason so far, maybe)
