Holy moly Strand-Wolfe both 7:30. Amazing range for Abdalla a few seconds back. Gary Martin tactical disaster but still ran 7:36 wasting 40 meters and multiple surges needlessly trying to pass the top 3.
Sub-55 for the first two.

Birnbaum stepped on the infield and it looked unintentional so I hope he doesn’t get DQed. Like Gary Martin just way too much impatience in a 3K. You don’t need to be first at 2 or 3 laps to go, let alone 4. But Birnbaum wasted a ton of energy trying to hold the lead and then fight back for it while the top 2 were steadier and then kicked hard.
Strand and wolfe just destroyed with record with 7:30.14. Abdalla and martin both looked to get under it. Insane they could do that off XC fitness
It's not insane at all. It's 7+ minutes of running and you need to be massively aerobically fit to hold a fast pace. What better way to get fit than train for a 8k-10k. And as long as you are doing consistent strides/hill reps at 800/mile pace throughout xc season, 3k pace will never feel uncomfortable.
Go find & read Grant Fishers' coaches comments about why he (7:25 guy) ran so fast in Paris. Hint: it wasnt "speedwork".
Her (and Hilda's) last 3000 (8:47) would have placed very high in the open 3000
Now w/2 women chasing Tuohy's 8:35/3k indoor record, have to believe it will be gone by NCAA Indoors. Would seem reasonable Doris or Hilda get invited to New Balance Grand Prix or Millrose Games, which ever one has a women's 3k.
