There was a fist fight mid 5k, 😆 the guy who won the fist fight won the race as well and the guy he knocked out finished 2nd. Craziest thing I’ve ever seen in a race.
I watched the build-up to this and was right behind these guys when that happened (you can see my face off Lane Werley's shoulder). Hilariously egregious but didn't seem to affect Connor Winter. Not sure if anything else happened after this, was only ~1km into the race if my memory is correct.

1. A 50-year-old man drafting off a 12-year-old girl in a road race and outkicking her at the finish line. 2. A high school boy throwing punches at the back of the heads of two competitors from an opposing team during a Regional XC meet at 300 meters left to the finish. He was disqualified. 3. A high school girl runner cutting the course through a wooded area and finishing a 5K in 16:00—despite her personal best being around 25 minutes. She crossed the line over two and a half minutes ahead of the second-place finisher who was really first. It was hard to disprove initially, but her teammates ratted her out. 4. A collegiate runner purposely sabotaging a top 7 teammate in the week leading up to a major race. This included banging on his door at 2 a.m., sending random disturbing emails and texts, and even attempting to make him sick—all out of jealousy.
Some people are quite pathetic.
#1 is the most pathetic
How is that pathetic? A race is a race. There are probably more 12 year old girls who can run a 18 min 5k than 50 year olds so it makes sense they could be running the same pace. If that's who you have to draft off, would you propose running into the wind and purposely killing your time?
I was a sophomore, running xc in a race so serious I think coach had us wear trainers, and these two guys from another team were running infront of me about a mile into the race. Then the one slightly trailing shouted "SLINGSHOT" and he shot his fist out. Then the other reached back grabbed it launched him infront of himself clearly giving him an illegally advantagous speed boost. This kind of cheating should not be tolerated and should be talked about more. However, I was thankful for the mid-race indication that I should probably be running a little harder...

I'd bet there are more 50 year old guys than 12 year old girls who can run 18, but I also don't see what's wrong with using whoever is around you as a pacer in the race, or kicking hard no matter what
