At this point, he's probably had to put aside or postpone his "pro training group" plans because his (formerly self-published) book on coaching Newbury Park got picked up by a big publisher. If it does Running with the Buffaloes business, it could create a lot of opportunities outside coaching. He may be working on additional material ahead of publication, preparing for a promotional tour, and lining up ancillary work like speaking engagements and consulting gigs — you know, stuff like "Sean Brosnan shares his secrets for coaching high-schoolers in this special paid webinar" or what have you. The book's out in September.

as the years pass, he becomes more and more irrelevant. high school runners are popular with other high school runners. the kids in school now barely even know about Newbury Park, if at all. 5-6 years ago might as well be a lifetime to a 16 year old.
Edjoin has tons of high school xc coach openings for the fall 2025. Let's see him develop a program without 2 generational families like Crater, Jesuit, etc. with coaches who have been there over 20 years. Cmon Seannie you are the self-proclaimed best coach of all time so come on down, you are the next contestant!

He said he could replicate it anywhere. Let's see him do it.
It's insane to me that someone with exactly one year of experience beyond coaching high school (and we all know how that went), somehow thinks coaching high school is below him.

Why should he go through that whole process again just to please people like you, who would probably then say “see he’s only good at coaching high schoolers”?
He has nothing left to prove at the high school level which is why he’s starting a pro group.

Not to please people like me, but to actually get a job he's qualified for. There is massive misalignment between his view of what job he is qualified for vs the view of the people doing the hiring and joining the pro groups.
You're in the minority when you think he has nothing to prove at the high school level. With all his bravado, he still has to prove he can coach a team to the same level of success without the Youngs and Sahlmans. He said he can do it, so prove it, or should we just all believe he can do it because he said he could do it.
He has been “starting” a pro group for 2+ years now. It is not happening.
He’s been working on his book that a big publisher picked up. The book is finished now though so we’ll see. If you think no pro would be interested in that opportunity you must be a new fan of the sport.

A big publisher picked up. Does that mean he got a huge advance to live on and share with the ghost writers? Because there is a huge market for such a book. Coffee table editions?
This will change nothing. He is a forcibly retired ex-coach. he left his last employment in shame and has done nothing to suggest that he learned from it.

Dude, the book has been done since early Summer. If you somehow think he was holed up in some remote location slaving away for endless hours writing this book, you're ignorant. He has had plenty of time to get the group started. He traveled all around the world this past year beating the bushes to get something going and there has been zero signs of anything real. There is absolutely no interest in anyone funding or joining his "pro team". He's been saying it's about to be announced forever. Trust me, if he actually gets something going, it's going to be some fringe group of misfits in Big Bear that he'll try to convince everyone is a big deal.

If Jakob said he could win my local turkey trot, I’d be inclined to believe him because of his track record. I wouldn’t be saying “he said he can do it, so prove it”.
Similarly, Brosnan coached the greatest HS team of all time, so I’m not inclined to say “prove you can do it again”. The way to add to his legacy is by doing a good job with his pro group.
I’ve been saying this for a while. There’s a clear path for Nico Young to train under Brosnan once Nike say he can no longer train with Mike Smith.
Grant has set the blueprint by training under Mike Scannel. Once Nico has success under Brosnan, pro’s will be chomping at the bit to train under him too.
Nico has no interest in training with Brosnan again. If he can't train with Mike Smith then he'd just start training with Cornfield and it would be the same exact training.

The guy isn’t going to rush the creation of his pro group just to please his impatient doubters. He probably doesn’t want to settle for a ‘fringe group of misfits’ and is likely taking the time to secure funding from a top brand so he can do this right.
The US distance scene is somewhat at a crossroads with the uncertainty around Swoosh TC and the underperformance of OAC. If Brosnan plays his cards right, he could form one of the best groups in the country.

There is no pro group.
For all of 2023, Brosnan was saying his pro group would start in early 2024 because pro contracts end 12/31/23.
For all of 2024, he was saying his pro group would start in 2025 because pro contracts end 12/31/24.
So if we are to believe Brosnan's own, words, then all pro runners are currently locked in to their contracts and the absolute EARLIEST his pro group might start is in 2026.

And Grant Fisher probably had no interest in training with Mike Scannell in his first few years at Bowerman. Things change.
If he’s forced out of Mike Smith’s group due to not being a Nike athlete, and Brosnan’s pro group is having success, he would be much more likely to go with Brosnan who he’s had proven success with, than go with Cornfield who is juggling training pros with NAU.

Nike just created a new pro group and they chose Mike Smith. They are in better hands than ever.
Ritz is doing very well at OAC and has outperformed OAC's wildest dreams. 2 Olympic medals in 2024 for a brand new shew company.
New Balance is crushing it with Coogan, ESP, Valby, MacLean, Mackey, etc. and may get a men's pro group soon too.
If any brand wants to hire a high school coach to form a pro group, they would start with SCANNELL who already has a very successful pro.

He wasn’t proven guilty for the whole UCLA nonsense, and even IF he was, people have come back from a lot worse
Shelby came back to medal at world indoors and will likely get a new sponsor. Gatlin came back from a doing ban and got sponsored by Nike.
You must be new to the sport if you think Brosnan has been ‘forcibly retired’ because of the UCLA situation. The only thing that brands care about in this sport is success, and Brosnan has a track record of achieving that.
