I suspect you know this, but it won't make landfall until tomorrow. Please make preparations and if you are in an evacuation zone, leave if you can. landfall "timing," meh -- hurricane rains and wind half the nastiness has been hitting you before the eye shows up. hours. lights have probably been off a while.

if the eye actually comes overhead it's like a bizarre fair weather pause in the middle. it's not the bad part.

What standards of living have we had to sacrifice? People are still tooling around alone in big trucks/SUVs, the trucks just get better MPG. My standard of living is much higher than it was in 2000, and I use less resources.

weather "control" is funny. we took a direct hit from beryl this summer. we prepared for it but still suffered damage. but anyhow, the "cone" on that sucker moved all over the place and some didn't prepare much. if you ignored the spaghetti -- which i noticed -- and just followed the cone -- the cone was in mexico. then the cone was in southern texas. then further and further up. [i kind of think NWS/NHC needs to fix that.]

similarly, the louisiana storm after that the cone was corpus or houston. then sabine river. then LA.

until the last few days the FL panhandle storm was EITHER LA/MS OR FL.

i don't know how many times we've been in the bullseye then missed. or out of it then moved in the last 3 forecast days.

dude, my point re landfall timing is if the thing comes ashore at 10 pm you've been being spanked since 4 pm and the lights off since 5-6 pm. and if you've been in it, by 12 or 1 the worst might be done, winds backing off, storms intermittent.

when TV says it made landfall at 10 if you live on the coast you're already halfway into the storm.

MTG will say that the Jooooz are causing this hurricane. It's hitting the west coast not the east coast of Florida where most live.

for a fall storm the increasing breeze is often pleasant the day before. my wife and i once ate on the patio of a restaurant the day before a hurricane hit.

the next day you are getting windblown rain around your windows, your gutter is down, and tree limbs are all in your yard.

A fluffy (high cat) hurricane is a bit worse than that. You've prob seen 1 or 2 cat hurricanes. When these things get the zoomies, the power is out, the roads are underwater. Heck houses might flood in low lying areas.
