I like Camille Herron and once paid for an hour phone call coaching consult with Camille and her husband/coach Conor Holt. I have also spent several hours jogging and talking with Trishul Churns, and I don't want to draw any conclusions based on the limited information in Marley Dickinson's article, but I acknowledge that the situation looks quite bad.
My one thought, and I admit it is an unlikely hope, is that it is possible that Camille was unaware of the changes and edits being done by her husband and coach. I think the article doesn't fully substantiate its claims that these subject Wikipedia accounts were Herron's. The article does note that: "The edits have been traced back to Herron’s email and Holt’s IP address," but I think it is likely that Conor regularly used Herron's email and there is some possibility that Herron was unaware of the negative edits being done to the accounts of fellow competitors as well as the puffery being added, in violation of Wikipedia conflict of interest policy, to her own Wikipedia page.
Regardless, I think Camille really needs to make a public apology to Courtney Dewaulter, Stine Rex, Des Linden, and others.
I am a fan of all four of those women, although I think objectively Courtney, Des, and Stex may be more accomplished and objectively better runners than Camille.
The ultra community is rightfully very big on emphasizing positivity. I hope that Camille acknowledges her mistakes, apologizes, and turns this into a learning experience for all.
