Does & Mother know that Elle makes hundreds of thousands of dollars per year? I know every bit helps but I just find it weird we have so many incentives in all walks of life for the top 1% - whether it's stadiums for billionaire owners, lottery funding for Mo Farah or this.
This isn't the only work they are doing and it's a relatively new organization. This is something visible that they can do in the meantime. I do think there needs to be some more information on their website. Maybe you could interview Alysia Montaño?
Something else they did was provide a lactation space at Hayward Field during the trials. I talked with them quite a bit while I was there venting my frustrations over the accessibility issues at the stadium, plus the struggle of finding childcare while traveling to events like this. They've been pushing to get a childcare space at Hayward (and other stadiums, marathons, etc)., which would also be available to athletes, and perhaps even other staff such as coaches, agents, and media members. Even if it wasn't free, it would be one less thing for parents to have to stress about and plan.
All of this is nice, but not everything needs to be for babies. but if there are organizations out there who want to make that their mission, god bless them. but this is not a serious problem.
People have been going to work and needing child care for a long damn time.
Sexism? Why do other people need to come up with solutions for something that’s YOUR responsibility? YOU are the one who chose to have twins, and that makes YOU responsible for their care, and that’s going to come with sacrifice. If you wanted to keep running the way you did before you had children, you should’ve thought of that before having them.
I think you are confused by what I wrote. I was replying to comment "Tell me you are a sad single white man...." What I meant was that comments like this are not helpful, that we shouldn't "go in circles all day debating the sexism" because it's not just a women's issue. Men are parents too.
I agree with you darling!!
There is gender inequality when it comes to being an athlete dad as compared to athlete mum.
More should be done to ensure this does not adversely affect high performance. Speaking of which it seems the East African societies tend to do better than white societies when it comes to delegating duties for child-care of very young children. The case of Anyanyo the 28:57 10k runner seems to suggest that there is a very tight knit family support for families of female athletes, which I assume includes female athletes with young children. I think traditionally, East African families are very bonded to one another perhaps because of the overwhelming rural profile of the communities. They tend to be situated amongst big mountains, lush green scenery, crisp air supply, fertile valleys with the scent of tea leaves and colors of daffodils and constant supply of fresh sunlight. These are favorable natural sequential conditions for big-hearted familial love, care, support and commitment to one another. You get less in white societies with its urban or suburban profile.
But we put this all aside, and I can definitely say that Elisabeth shouldn't have had a baby so soon or sooner than Jakob's 2024 Olympic race schedule. She should have been more patient and waited long, the same goes for Jakob.
Cheers

i think jakob will be training on the same schedule no matter what. several week trips to altitude are the norm for him. she will always have those lonely multiple week periods, unless they decide those trips should be for the whole family.
Agreed, not sure why if she knew it was going to be lonely she didn't accompany Jakob for all his training trips??? It doesn't make any sense since to alleviate her sorrow all she needs to do is learn how to carry a baby in a baby robe and bring her along everywhere with all the baby necessities etc.....
