Gary Martin Should transfer

Guess what: Gary Martin isn’t listening to any of this twaddle.

I bet he reads and chuckles,we know he's on here occasionally.

I just watched his heat. He had great position at the front on shoulder of lead for 3 laps. He just closed in 55 and the field at that level closed in 53.

Only alternative would have been to drive harder up front, or for next year keep improving strength& speed. Was by no means an awful performance.

yeah, right mate cause it's Vin Lanana's fault he ran PB's across every event this year and then didn't make it to the final at NCAAs. Come off it. Nobody of sound mind thinks like this and I'm sure that includes Gary Martin. Let the 20-year-old enjoy the by all accounts fantastic season he had and let him work on what he needs to work on this off season. Still lots of running left to do for Gary.

Vin Lananna is like walking dead. He just gets some talent and doesn’t coach much at all. They barely meet at a team during the spring. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him on the portal this summer. This is second hand but who blames him

Meanwhile UVA’s program has been elevated under Vin. They won the ACC men’s track championship, and they hosted cross country nationals. Neither of those things would have happened without Vin being there.

Correct. That still doesn't mean that gary falling short of the finals means that the ACC is a "weak conference". Again, get better at reading.

I don’t know why you say anyone is lying about Vin Lananna. It’s not a requirement to like a man that has been a scum bag to countless people his entire career. Thats no secret.

Amen. Vin’s cronies ( assistant coaches ) come on here and get mad when people talk about his past ways. Vin was let go from Stanford and Oregon and that’s true. They can pretend it’s not true all they want, but anyone who knows anything in the running world knows.

UVA's a good school and he's a good runner (both understatements) so he could probably transfer anywhere - Stanford would be a great choice. Or Duke

Another IDIOTIC tweet by Gault. Cohen ran 1:48.25 at Tampa. He ran 48.27 and 22.28 for 200.

In case you weren't sure, 22.28 is extremely fast for 200m for a middle distance runner, especially considering they don't train blocks.

Cohen had a bad senior year, but Vin was inheriting an absolute BEAST. To Vin's credit, he did develop Cohen extremely well from 1:48 to 1:45.

I wouldn’t call setting a PB across just about every distance this year from 800 to 5000m a struggle.

Well at least you admit Vin is a bad person. I think that’s the point of the negative Vin talk. He’s done so many people wrong over the years. As for Gary transferring I think people believe he’s underperforming. He was in the much easier heat in the 1500m and failed badly to make final the other day. He’s performance at NCAA’s in cross country was one of the worst of performances by any halfway decent HS recruit ever seen.

I didn’t say Vin is a bad person. Nobody has provided any proof of that. On the contrary, his ability to keep landing high profile gigs and opportunities such as hosting cross country nationals suggests the opposite. If everyone hated him, UVA wouldn’t have been selected to host that event.

As for Martin, I don’t put much stock in how a miler does in cross country. And I think y’all are blowing Wednesday’s race out of proportion. He was not expected to be a contender this year. Next year will likely be a different story.

Shane Cohen. I love how this thread transformed a good runner who had a bad day into a tired old series of Vin Lananna envy. Right, Gary should tranfer to get away from lousy coaching. Riiiiiiight. Transferring worked out great for Mia Barnett didn’t it. She really found herself. Meanwhile Appleton thrives along with a much improved women’s squad. Porter, Mountain, Sado and Cohen. Oh yeah and Gary who should transfer Martin.

Vin is a good coach whether you like him or not. When he went to Stanford, Cal had beaten them for 30 years straight, maybe 31. He turned that ship around. When he went to Oregon that program was a dumpster fire. Transformed. UVA was a team in disrepair, not anymore. the great thing about this sport is that results have no bias.

I really believe he is a 5k guy with wheels but his Cross is not good at all.

i do not think and never did that his best event would be 1500/mile

he does need some form work as well, it is hard to carry that for 10k of cross
