That’s interesting. Someone in the track thread also asked whether Wyatt Carr’s dad will step down as a CDA coach after Wyatt graduates.
I think it would be hard to be a coach for long after your kid graduates. I'm not sure if Emry has younger kids or not, but I wouldn't be surprised.
I don't think Jeff is going to step down anytime soon. According to interviews, they live off of Jeff's teacher salary and coaching is another ~$9k per year of household income. Maybe when Marisa retires from running and goes back to work full time, but I think he really loves the sport.
I’m sure that Jeff would love to get his team to NXN someday, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he sticks around for a while. He was part of a Washington NXN-winning team when he was in HS. Washington was really strong back then, but after Covid it’s gone downhill
CDA seems like the only one in this list that has a chance to make NXN

The first week gives some pretty good head to head matchups.
Jimmy Driscoll:
Girls: Paisley Taylor, Lily Sullivan, Faith Johnson, Sasha Livingston, Betsy Reeder. 5 girls that could be top 10 at state cross. Owyhee v. Timberline v. Eagle v. Capital. Those 4 should all be locks to make state, and might all be trophy contenders.
Boys: Meridian v. Owyhee v. Timberline v. Eagle (should give a good amount of insight into that battle for the last few spots for state)
Patriot Relays (3k):
Girls: Mountain View v. Boise. It will be interesting to see what Mountain View looks like after losing so much.
Boys: Centennial v. Boise v. Mountain View. 3 teams that should be competing for a trophy at state. Possibly the 3rd through 5th best teams in the state this year.
Rocky Mountain is going to the Timpanogos UT invitational. They are signed up in the PM race but i see that American Fork, Herriman, etc. are in the AM race
That explains the random Jerome meet they have. I'm guessing they are going to drive to Jerome, race the same day for 85% of the team, and then either drive down as a large group that day or the next to race their varsity squads. I am guessing driving down the next day as that's why they aren't in the AM section.
It would be nice to see them in the more competitive selection, but Riverton and Corner Canyon are listed as additional teams in Tullyrunners and are in their section.
I don't have time to watch all of that, but if that's the case, CDA isn't going to have depth issues w/o Rietze that are bad enough to cause them to lose the state meet.

No Rietze. But it appears they have landed Rowan Henry (4:27 1500 8th grade). They have 3 sub 5 milers in their Freshman Class it seems. Howard, Morgernstern and Henry.
Not sure this gets them past Crater or Jesuit at NXR.......
Jesuit returning 6 under 4:30 if you are just looking at mile times from track which we know does not tell you much in cross country. I do think CDA beats Crater as I don’t think crater has the depth this year that they had last year. Hole in the wall will be our first glimpse at Jesuit and CDA. Good race last year for CDA. Jesuits youthfulness showed as they blew a 30plus point lead going into the last mile. Older more race seasoned Jesuit team this year. I would expect to see different results.
Less so if you put 3 around their #1 like CDA will.
It looks like the CDA rising sophomores are healthy and hitting over 60 miles a week.
CDA has 3 D-1 runners that will run anywhere from 15:10 - 14:50 this year.
SOLID
After that uncertainty sets in. Rohlinger should be good for a 15:45 this year.
After that you have a bunch of guys who have never broken 17 minutes.
They need Dance or the Freshman Henry to deliver where Rohlinger left off last year.
Good enough to win States but it will be a battle with Jesuit at NXR.

You're forgetting Heule who ran 4:34 and 9:54 as a freshman.
By 3200m times, you have CDA at 9:02, 9:12, 9:18, 9:32 and 9:54. If the 9:32 boy isn't there, you have a boy that has run a 6:15 steeple as your #4 or #5. Reminder that Keith Uitdewilligan ran 6:25 in the steeple.
Even if the 9:32 boy is injured right now, as long as he is cross training, there's a decent chance that he could be back in time for state and NXR. A femur stress fracture (not saying that's what it is) is 12-14 weeks for full recovery. If he's 4 weeks into it, that puts him as early October for a return to running. 6 weeks is a long time to get fit, especially if you stayed on top of cross training.

Sehome and Kamiakin look pretty legit. Kamiakin does really well at the end of the season and this year they have the best team since 2019; they return almost everyone from last year. Their #1 is a senior who has been #1 on the team since sophomore year and he has an older brother who was part of their 2018 & 2019 NXN teams.
Anyways, this is an Idaho thread and there’s a new thread for NXR NW discussions
With the season starting very soon, what are peoples' predictions on how this XC season for the Northwest (WA, OR, ID, MT)? Strongest top 5/individual runners? Most likely NXN qualifiers/wild cards? What do you think is in st...
