"Some word vomit of thoughts on my run today: I’ve still continued to get drug tested thankfully (although WADA/AIU has not tested me once since my ban), and I was tested this morning. I welcome and support this but I can’t help but also acknowledge the fear and anxiety that now comes with it. I no longer take vitamins or supplements because I’m honestly terrified of everything. I ate chicken last night and have a small portion of it in the freezer, just in case. Maybe I’m the only athlete that feels this way, but is this really the answer? I agree that athletes should be intentional and mindful of what goes into their bodies but is there not a better way for this system to operate? To be completely held accountable for systematically low standards for our food/meat supply or for our supplements seems harsh in my mind. And why is there no accountability for these systems or for the anti-doping governing body as well? Am I wrong here? How do we fix this?"
My only thought is that if meat were really as rogue as she seems to think (or supplements) then way more people would be facing a suspension than just her. But it's really only her.
She never has any solutions either.
(I haven't followed every detail of this story.) - But honestly, if I were Ms. Houlihan, - I would have gone straight back to the food-van, maybe with a public notary and a camera-person. - asked for meat samples or buy the items - then have them tested. ALSO, I'd ask for details of where they get their meat. - AND certainly, before too long, have it out with the food-van operator, for selling contaminated meat to everyone. Plus tell the health department. Maybe get a female friend of similar age and size, to eat from the van and see what a drug test comes up with. - and probably sue the van for lost income etc. DID she do any of those things ??? ...or just put all the blame on the 'governing body'. Surely, she should want to govern her own body and not just point fingers. with words and vomit. Has her vomit been tested ? One silver-lining in all this is, that despite the ban, Ms. Houlihan is still free to run as much as she likes - just not in a sanctioned event. (...unless it's the Enhanced Games.)
IF she is innocent, I just hope that Covid sweeps though Paris and the games are delayed until Ms. Houlihan is eligible again. - BUT stay away from them pork-crossoints in 2026 hey Shelbs !!! ...and try for victory in the 1500 menteuse !!
do you honestly think Nike wouldnt have done this if they thought it would work?
This is all on nike. everyone knew everyone at btc was doing, shelby got caught so they had to throw her under the bus, but at the same time compensate her and protect the brand. that is exactly what happened. if nike had thought for a second her story was true they would have tested every dam food truck in the country. they easily have the ability to do that so why didnt they? cos nike pumped btc full of drugs.
She would need a policeman with a warrant, to do some of the stuff suggested in your first paragraph. The food truck people did nothing wrong and she would have had no right to harass them.
Actually the following actually did happen (by her PI):
"asked for meat samples or buy the items - then have them tested. ALSO, I'd ask for details of where they get their meat"
The testing was negative, and the details of the meat source came up in the CAS report (based on the invoice the food truck owner handed over). Didn't turn out well for her, nothing sketchy, just standard stomach meat from a regular slaughterhouse (see CAS for its name).

Interesting. I didn't know that. .....but I feel she DID do the right thing. ...being willing to take the risk that further meat might turn up negative, feels like a risk an innocent person would take. ...maybe she did this as well...but I know as a citizen...if I knew something might be off...I'd be doing something so that other people weren't eating bad meat. ...you know, even non athletes. Just regular citizens. ...having said that, if Mary Cain bought from the same food van, she'd be a sitting duck. Thanks are probably in order for Shelby, from citizen Cain.

How ironic, that because of this toxic food van and a ban at the age of 31 - poor Shelby might end up living in a van - down by the river.

I bet. not would talk trash about Goddess Shelby to she face. I bet u not would.

AAAND... even if the pork was on nandro, she had a beef burrito, ffs
this is med school textbook situation of cognitive dissonance. Shelby...how stupid do you think people are? Since Shelby thinks they ruled her case wrong, surely she should be fighting for tons of other dopers that are being systemically victimized by the 'big bad system' - nah... Shelby is a woman with tremendous amounts of privilege to still just be exercising daily with no real job. Get a reality check sweetheart.
I once broke my hand from punching a wall when I was pissed off. I was so embarrassed when I got a cast on it that I told people I wrecked my bike and broke it.
10 years later I can picture myself wrecking this bike and breaking my hand, I told the lie so many times I convinced myself it happened.

Shelby is a narcissist.

However, if Shelby Houlihan made a post on Strava using such language, it would likely refer to a candid or unfiltered expression of thoughts or emotions, possibly related to her athletic performance, training regimen, or personal experiences.
I take vitamins. I'm not scared. I eat chicken, too -- sometimes wrapped in a tortilla. My bravery astounds me, and I'm just a 45-year old man with 2 kids who only manages to run about 25 miles a week these days.
I should get off this message board and write about my vitamin courage on Strava. My followers will think I am a hero.
She should start her own restaurant: Burrito's by Shelby.
Her training mate Karissa Schweizer got smart and stopped doing the PED stuff. Notice how her performances have come back down to her true capabilities.
"My only thought is that if meat were really as rogue as she seems to think (or supplements) then way more people would be facing a suspension than just her. But it's really only her."
Uhh.. or maybe this happens frequently and we don't hear about it because most athletes aren't as good or high profile as Shelby was? Your thought is, quite frankly, stupid.
If more athletes were getting suspended for meat positives we’d hear about it regardless of how good they are. This isn’t a large community. It doesn’t happen. Also, keep in mind that Shelby’s numbers lined up perfectly with the nor-dhea that Ross tucker was able to find on Amazon. Shelby must be unaware just how “caught” she really is.
idk what she gains from all this baseless lying. No one believes her. No one considers her a victim.
We did hear about the case of Jarrion Lawson, and about 27 cases from USADA since 2015.
Defending these cases also costs the athlete money, and requires expertise in both the meat industry, and arguing in anti-doping cases. Very few athletes would have Houlihan's resources to fight an aggressive prosecution. I wonder how many Kenyan nandrolone positives came from ingesting pork, as Kenya does not routinely castrate their pigs, and most athletes cannot afford to defend themselves, and may not have access to legal experts able to navigate the WADA Code, and related TDs, to mount a successful defense.
SH may not have knowingly taken PEDS, but she still had the high levels of anabolic steroids in her system. Whether she purposefully took them or not, they still ENHANCED her performance and thus created an unfair advantage and her marks should be wiped out. She's never been up front about this. She just denies she took the drugs willingly, but she doesn't deny the drugs were in her body and the fact that they were making her leaner, stronger and faster.
that's her narrative and she's sticking to it for professional reasons. i feel for her in that she only did what the top 10 in every event are also doing...she's just having her reputation ruined for it, while other prolific athletes (who are also equally dirty) get fame and fortune.
Funny that you said "...top ten in every event are doing..." A story: about 20 yrs ago I was at a USATF L2 school in the distances. At some point during a conversation with one of the instructors ( who had been around T&F a long time) I asked him "Do you think that anyone in the top ten in any event is clean?" He replied initially with "Top ten?" and I thought that I was really going to gt it for even suggesting that athletes were using, but he continued with "Top ten, more like easily the top 50 are using!" That was 20 yrs ago - I would hazard that the use of PEDS is more sophisticated now than it was then.
