You are writing fan fiction - Your argument assumes Nico Young would run his current times if he was transported to the 70's and had to run under those conditions. You know full well he wouldn't get anywhere close to his current times.
What do you think Young would have run had he competed in the 70'S?
You literally just typed out a hypothetical scenario where Nico gets teleported to the 70s and claimed I (not you) wrote fanfiction...
I don't know what Nico would run in the 1970s bro, that's the entire point bro... I'm not trying to argue that Nico has super powers and can do whatever I want him to do (writing fanfiction).
What I do know is that Nico has a faster PR in everything (😂 steeplechase is not real 😂). Did you know Nico closed his NCAA 3k-5k faster than Rono's mile PR?

This right here is the most annoying thing about the shoes. D-bags like you that refuse to acknowledge the advantage provided. It's delusional.
Nico Young's PRs can't be compared to anyone that ran prior to 2019.
What do you people want??? Does Nico need to run 26 flat to be better than Rono? Seriously, his PR is 30 seconds faster...
Or is it that nobody can ever be better than the dudes you grew up with, everyone else has an unfair advantage and is some type of cheater (Shoes, lights, pacers, better drugs).
Why is it so hard for you to admit that someone might be better than Henry Rono...
What time do you think modern guys would be running if they were in lame old spikes on dead tracks with no bounce? I think you need to ask yourself if you really think humans have evolved better bodies since 30 years ago? How can 250 college kids all break 4 in the mile? Are they all better athletes than the NCAA studs of the 1980s who rarely did it?
If Nico had worse tracks, worse shoes, worse comp, worse pacing, he would have run 27:30. That is still AMAZING. But it is back in line with the elites from the 1990s (or 80s).
Go to YouTube and watch Henry run. He was a different runner. He ran a 27:30, in pouring rain, hung over, and with a visible beer belly, defeating a peak Salazar.
Shoes alone are worth 30+. Average times for top 100 US athletes for 10000m post shoes compared to previous 10 years starting with 2019 and going to 2009 is 30 seconds for the men and 40 seconds for women. The last 4 years for US men’s 10000m is at least 30 seconds faster than and pre-Covid year. Times improved 30 seconds in one year and have only gotten better.
Hats off to any collegiate/pro runner who shows up to their next 10000m without cheat shoes.
Joshua Cheptegei solos a poorly paced 26:49 from the front in a tactical championship race in 2017 (with old spikes), three years later he sets the 26:11 WR with new spikes, drafting off of pacers and wavelights. Jacob Kiplimo runs 26:33 pre super spikes, you think he can run sub 26 now since apparently they are worth 30+ seconds in the 10k?
Kiplimo didn't run 26:33 pre-super spikes. He ran 26:33 in 2021 in super spikes.

I love what Nico has done but to compare him to Rono is silly. Get back to me when Nico can run 8:05 and 13:08 solo in a dual meet, in old spikes without pacers, wavelight, bouncy track and/or modern spikes.
All of that being said, I'm contemplating making a shirt celebrating the recent times. What do you think?
I actually think Nico could do this or come close. 8:05 in old spikes alone? The kid ran 7:37 and 13:25 or something indoors. The 13:08 will be hard but he just ran a 13:22 or something at the end of a 10k. Maybe he couldn't pull it off but it's not crazy to think he could come close.

Runner A “only” ran 3:35.6 BUT he was an Olympic champion and set 3 world records. I believe he was undefeated with a record of 36-0 in the mile.
Runner B ran 3:35.21 and was an NCAA champion and a US champion.
So we know for sure that Runner B was better correct? Runner B is Gabe Jennings. Runner A is Herb Elliott.
Runner A please note, also ran on DIRT and early 1960’s adidas spikes when producing that 3:35.6 WR in an Olympic final 1960, three days after the semifinal of 3;41.5.

Young doesn't have a faster 3k than Rono
Rono ran 7:32 in old spikes.
Rudy Chapa ran 7:37 in old spikes
Rojo was talking about 8:05/13:08 in the same meet. Not matching PR to PR.
Cole Hocker and Cooper Teare are better milers than Herb Elliott and Jim Ryun
Will Sumner is better than Peter Snell
Human evolution sped up tremendously in 2019 everyone is now superior.
Humans obviously haven’t evolved, but training, recovery, and nutrition most certainly has. I think anybody who is capable of thinking rationally accepts that the spikes are worth 2-3 seconds per mile. The tracks probably 2-3 seconds per mile better than an old dirt / cinder track. Put 1967 Ryun in the Prefontaine mile last year and he would have been very competitive. With modern training, recovery, and nutrition I’d argue he wins the race. To this day he still has the fastest closing 300 in a 3:38 race.

Give Ryun 3 seconds for the spikes and 3 seconds for the track and he's a 3:45 miler.
The improvement attributed to "training, recovery, and nutrition" is greatly overblown. The difference is due mainly to technology.

Lol, you can't be serious. There's a difference between acknowledging that dragonfly's do make you run marginally faster and writing fanfiction about Henry Rono transporting to 2024 and PRing by 30 seconds because of them...
Get a grip, y'all are delusional. What are you going to do when in 5 years when there's collegiate field where 10 twenty-one year olds break 13?
Maybe you could acknowledge that these runners are actually better than Rono and that over the last 40 YEARS, maybe just maybe somebody came around that was better than him...
There's no reason to pretend and parade Henry Rono around like he's Jesus. It's running, the objective is to run faster, over the course of history people have gotten better at it, in 50 years they'll be collegiate athletes that run faster than the world record today. Are you going to cry then too... Get a grip bro. It's the natural progression of life, the world moves on after you die, it's not about you anymore, it's not about your generation. Have some respect. Maybe you wouldn't have so much hate for younger people if you for once in your life tried to understand someone else and appreciate them.

You can't even get the facts right. - Rono has a faster 3k time straight up. Rono has faster NCAA cross country times straight up. Rono has more NCAA championships straight up. Rono has more NCAA records straight up. Rono has world records straight up.
So what you’re saying is: context matters when making comparisons. I completely agree. It’s not fair to compare their accomplishments at age 21 because of their very different circumstances. Likewise, it’s not fair to compare the accomplishments of a fully grown and in his prime man who was 26 to those of a still developing young man who is only 21.
Yes context matters, but Young is not a developing young runner, he looks like he's a 27 years old grown man.. If you want to compare me to Rono, that's fair, because when I was 22 I didn't look a day over my 17th birthday.
Put Young in a pair of Nike Vainqueurs then come back to me. Those were the worst spikes ever made. Thats what Henry wore. When Rono joined the Kenyan Army he was given his first pair of shoes -- not running shoes, they were the first real shoes he ever owned, so Vainqueurs must have been heavenly, relatively speaking.
Back in day I told Geoff Hollister that he needs to take adidas spiders and sew a swoosh on them. He said that Vainqueurs worked fine for Henry. My response was that Henry is not human, then held out a pair of Vainqueurs, and bent them. "See that, the human foot doesn't bend there does it?"
The real difference between the two is that Young is a programmed automaton. Rono was pure exuberance.Bliss in motion.. To watch him run was an experience of joy that mesmerized everyone. To this day I've never seen a runner like him. Is that the experience that Young gives you? They are completely different runners in different eras.
Rono in 2024 or Young in 1978? I think you know the answer.
There's your context.
Yes. Would be hard to imagine Young coping with Rono doing a virtual fartlek while running very close to the world record for 2 miles as he did v Ovett at Crystal Palace in 1978...
