Postpartum performance improvement is very common and scientifically valid.
“But scientific evidence suggests that, in some ways, she may find performance a bit easier during this period because of the changes to her heart and her lungs.”
Higher levels of oestrogen are released during pregnancy, a hormone which can increase water retention and minimise fatigue during racing by stimulating the release of serotonin.

Yes, pregnancy helps open up the rib cage making it easier to breathe.

Forty-two elite (>50% competed at the World Championships/Olympic) middle-/long-distance runners' training before, during, and after pregnancy (quality/quantity/type) data (retrospective questionnaire) and competition data (published online) were collected.
Among participants who intended to return to equivalent performance levels postpregnancy, there was no statistical decrease in performance in the 1 to 3 yr postpregnancy compared with prepregnancy, and ~56% improved performances postpregnancy.

It happened 20 years ago. I have bascially stopped drinking. I now generally treat people as individuals, but understand that white privelege is still very much a true concept in many places. If you deny that, I side-eye that but move on.
Anyway, back to Elle ...

My god. What a race. And the M in her name applies as she's a MOTHER.
So now that everyone is a 8.20 low runner is that 8.06 WR possible if Kipyegon et al perhaps went for it outdoors?

If Tuohy wins a world title in an AR are you going to say the same thing?

To take down one of the all time elites in Tsegay -- a monster across so many distances -- that's a great win
Happy to see it, especially with Pineda coming down to hug Tsegay on the track. Ridiculous.

Everyone please 🛑 STOP responding to the foolishness of the posters trying to taint Ellie's name. Your adding legitimacy to their stupidity with every response. THE END

According to your logic, Mary Cain and other world class females stagnated and regressed in running performances because of lack of babies.
An udderly fantastic run. Basic components of her success appears to be a great strength-to-weight ratio and good tactics.
St Pierre is the female version of Alan Webb.
I’m gonna give props to Tsegay for running an honest race and NOT angling to lane 3 at the finish. She rightfully didn’t put up with Hassan doing it to her last year. No obstruction here, honest racing.
