The women have a few qualifiers.. it's hard to know how the scholarship setup was with the men. He probably had to wait for some money to come off the books. He has young talent on the team. I said when he got hired I would wait until year 3 to decide if it was a failure. I guess he's got one more year in my mind before they have to fire him.

I've been a big supporter/fan of Jerry since 2002. The guy helped change American distance running. We are better as a country in distance training and running because of Jerry.

What he has done since getting to Oregon is f'in bad. If you took out his name and inserted any other coach people would have burned the place down.

I still believe in Jerry's ability to coach, I also know he has changed. He is much more rigid then he use to be. He once was one of the best adaption coaches in the world. Now he believes there is only one way to get to the top. I'm not saying he is wrong now, he is a much better coach than I am. I'm just saying this isn't the same style that he was at Wisconsin.

Jerry's biggest mistake was becoming the Oregon Head Coach. It caused athletes to leave Bowerman and he is not cut out for the college coaching landscape anymore.

The assumption would be that they have a bunch of NIL money to work with. Phil knight forked over a few million for his salary, so surely there is plenty of NIL money too.

I get scholarships limiting your ability, but for a program like Oregon that isn't really as much of a limit.

With all the mile scratches, Oregon was still one scratch away from qualifying someone to the mile.

Could you imagine a football coach, who is new to the program after their predecessor won or was in the hunt for a national championship every year up to the moment they retired, told the AD and the booster to expect a complete rebuild? Then, after finishing unranked with back-to-back losing seasons, informed them that this was to continue "for another year or two as I get my guys ready to compete" with a straight face?

Or was fired or non-renewed for not "doing it right." There's winning, and then there's WINNING!!!!

Have to think recruiting will start to take a major hit. Not necessarily from the lack of results (I do expect eventually Jerry will have them running well) but because what kid wants to go to a program that never races? It’s a waste of 4 + years at some point.

Their men’s freshman class this year is loaded. It makes me upset for these kids whose college careers are going to be extremely disappointing. Birnbaum is a massive talent and a star. He has so much untapped potential IMO and I’m just praying that Jerry doesn’t F that up but my expectations are at rock bottom at this point.

Tyson is perfect t for the job: can recruit local Americans, is alumni and direct connections to Pre, has proven he can take terrible teams and turn them around…

the reality is Jerry bit off more than he could chew, or wanted to chew. Tyson will put in the 80+ hour weeks needed to win at this level. He might be in his 70’s, but the man is spry as ever and NOT in a grave like another poster stated

The top DIII school would beat Oregon in a dual meet right now, even if you only scored top 3 or 5.
