    club in a sport is more defensible when like no one in the state offers the sport. otherwise, if there are 30 varsity programs down the road, and the school is fairly average, why that school and not the other 30 that bother to back and fund varsity programs. and i am probably far understating how many TF options CA offers across the divisions.

    only other reason to go club, besides the school being perfect, is the school tells you NCAA is imminent. ok, i wait out a year and maybe even exercise a 5th year of eligibility. this is going the opposite direction. you're someone waving a budget pen around from no team at all. and you have to know they didn't want any team to exist.

    why would you do varsity level training and effort to get handed back club resources that they might even ask you to contribute financially for.

    Those are just dress down numbers. MLB orgs have many more players than a college team. NFL teams have practice squads and a deep free agent pool.

    i know that major league teams have probably over 100 players under contract but no team has more than 26 available at any one time. NFL taxi squads have sixteen players so you're looking at 69 guys getting paid by an NFL team, still quite smaller than D1-A teams carry.

    Is there a response? What can athletes do -- I know Brown and ?Georgia? were able to negotiate reinstitution of the sport. Certainly LMU seems like a more prestigious running program than Brown. Not sure how Georgia's distance teams compare to some of LMU's teams of the past

    I think you are referring to Clemson, not UGA. In any case, both of those programs went to the court of public opinion. Brown and Clemson track supporters painted a picture that the administration wanted to defund minority athletes (track, not necessarily XC) in favor of propping up sports like baseball, golf, tennis.

    The backlash was enough to get their ADs to back down. Not sure if LMU can do the same. They had a track program, but it was primarily (maybe exclusively?) distance and white. Need to find a different angle.

    Yea lmu is done… they also cut rowing and waterpolo… the sports they did cut were actually the probably the least diverse on campus. They just don’t want to bother with athletics… gonna make a small push to look like they care about hoops but in the end they are just using their sports programs for babysitting and light community building.

    Program went straight downhill after Dani Shanahan and the Australian Kayla and majority of 2016 team left.
