Yes, I agree. The only advantages Ross has over Valby are that her shot put mark is higher on the world list and she has a higher event score than Valby's best marks. But the scores are pretty close: 1208 for Ross, and 1202 and 1201 for Valby. Valby has the edge in number of NCAA record-breaking performances (4 to 3), and Valby has the decisive advantage in NCAA championships: 4 to 1. Ross lost in the shot put at the NCAA indoor championships, and she lost in the discus at the outdoor championships (finishing 14th). Valby had a perfect undefeated season both indoors and out. Valby will win the Bowerman.

If she wins then this award is a joke. In the global stage the woman's 5000 and 10000 are literally the weakest events in the NCAA program. I know a girl who did not break 5:05 in the mile in high school who placed in the 10,000. Do you realize there are sprinters who did not win their events in NCAA and wound up winning medals in the Olympics? How on Earth could Valby be considered better than these gals?
