Tony Hawk is well known and celebrated for literally tweeting about that kinda stuff 20x a year, but oh no! Molly had the vain audacity to do it TWICE over the course of several years? Or there's no way that can happen to her, she's just full of crap and lying for attention? Common, just admit you find women annoying and are a sexist pig.

I'm a f*cking nobody, but even in my office work life I'll have those small world moments where someone who I just met in the industry is talking about my work, not knowing that it was my work they're referencing (sometimes in a nice way, sometimes in a mean way)

Not as well known as Tony Hawk, but if Tony has the dozens and dozens of moments that he has with strangers, it's so possible for Molly to have a handful

She has one of the biggest followings of current any pro runner, and gets a crap ton of national press cause she WON AND OYMPIC MEDAL, to the point that if you ask non runners to talk about a current runner, her name is up their on the list of the few runners that they know cause they saw an article about her and her photo.

Idk what some of ya'll are doing with this thread. Seidel is one of our top runners. She has an Olympic medal. She hasn't done anything to generate some of these comments.

On her actual race, I would put it in a similar category to Rupp's race. It showed that she has plenty left in the tank & is a threat to make the team. I would say that this is probably her third or fourth best career marathon even though it's a PR. Chicago had perfect weather & is pancake flat. I would definitely put the Olympics & NYC ahead of it, and probably the Trials too. She's probably been in closer to 2:20 shape in the past. So I'd say 2:23 is encouraging. She'll gain some more fitness in the coming months & we know she's good in the heat. Hopefully she can replicate her 2020/2021 cycle. Make the team, solid result at the Olympics, run either a fast fall major or be competitive in NYC.

I never understood why people would doubt Molly's stories. Is throwing up before the Olympics a story and people doubt that? Why wouldn't you throw up. Lauren Fleshman had an article about a guy on a plane asking her if she ran cause of her running shoes and then he felt sorry for her that she only ran 5ks. "You'll get there," he said.

I've listened to Molly on podcasts and she's pretty emphatic in all her takes in the way young people are nowadays, so I find her attitude exaggerated but she's genuine about it. She's mentioned the commentators criticizing her at the NYC marathon for high-fiving her sister SEVERAL TIMES, as if it were a really harsh thing. But I remember it as just commentary. Carrie Tollefson said this is the time when she needs to stay focused. And you may think interacting with the crowd is fun but every little extra exertion can sap your energy. This may not be true of Molly since she was getting support from her sister. But that did happen to be the time Peres Jepchirchir made her break. Anyway, she may have taken it too personally from my point of view, but it did happen.

Why is it so hard to believe though? A man and his daughter ended up speaking to me about running on a flight because of my shoes and she had just started cross-country. Is it the mansplaining you find hard to believe? Once a man wouldn't back down from his position that Korea was closer to Vietnam than Japan when my family is from there. Do you not believe in coincidences? You've never run into your best friend from high school in a pizza parlor in a foreign country? Have you not lived??

One of my favorites. Seizing the moment is more valuable than 5th in the Olympics followed by 2:16 and no controversy.

I hope Molly recognizes that. She's in position to laugh at every doubter and critic. Her only obstacle going forward is unrealistically elevated public expectation in Paris, assuming she makes the team, which I believe is likely. The public doesn't pay attention between Olympiads. They'll tune in to the marathon on closing day and expect the bronze girl to upgrade this time.

I hope Kara Goucher and the other NBC commentators do a good job detailing the vast situational differences from Tokyo and the changed landscape of the event.
