The issue is that they committed to UCLA before they were in the transfer portal. How could they have picked UCLA because they liked Brosnan if they never talked to Brosnan? It proves he was talking to them illegally before they were in the portal.

Even though McDonnell already knew him, how would she know if there were any scholarships available at UCLA without talking to Brosnan. She ran 4:35 in high school, she is not going to give up her full ride at Alabama to pay full tuition at UCLA. She talked to Brosnan before entering the portal to ask if he had a scholarship available.

I have a feeling Mia's parents are laughing at how people think she will go to a placed based on available scholarships. This move is athletically motivated and I do not think La Canada allows poor people to live there. Her, Frias, and Collin's GF should just go to NAU and get it over with.

The NCAA can be petitioned to waive the redshirting requirement for athletes who transfer to two different schools. UCLA might be willing to provide the NCAA with a release of the athletes who wish to leave in order to avoid continuing controversy. That would only be fair, given how long UCLA took to inform Brosnan that his contract was not going to be renewed. The xc season is only a few weeks away and they currently have no coach. This might cause the NCAA to be more lenient with respect to the double transfer rule.

Her parents may be wealthy, but they seemed more than happy to pay zero at UVA and UCLA.

UVA/DUKE to UCLA to NAU doesn't sound right for academics.

If everyone is excited about paying full cost, they could go to Harvard and train with Ramsden and Gorriaran.

You have no idea what you're talking about. It doesn't prove anything. All 3 of those women knew Brosnan from high school. They grew up near each other and Frias and Barnett competed in many of the same meets as Newbury Park, so they knew each other teams and coaches pretty well.

Even when they were in college, Frias and Barnett could ask McDonnell any questions they wanted about how Brosnan was as a coach. These top girls text each other all the time.

I doubt she will get much if any money this late in the summer for this upcoming semester anyway. It's long gone so that's probably the last thing they are thinking about. This is athletically motivated so go to the best school for running and worry about academics in grad school. Once again, it's August and it's very possible Harvard will not allow her to transfer now. And how do you know she was getting everything paid for at UVA and UCLA anyhow? It's very possible she did not receive a dime from UCLA transferring in January.

Full scholarship/great academics was why they went xc from Cali to East Coast in first place. At that time UCLA had no scholarships for distance.

When Brosnan went to UCLA suddenly there were distance scholarships. That's the great mystery for me, UCLA knew what Brosnan was doing. Avery, the ADs, compliance, registrar all had to sign off and assist in making the 3 transfers possible. Even if they hated Brosnan, it would have been easier for all to see how it played out on the xc course, rather than blowing up the team.

I was joking a bit w/ Harvard, as clearly the parents don't really want to pay full price. Will be interesting to see how it goes. Of course it's late to transfer, but athletic departments have pull to cut thru the normal red tape, just this week Howell to TX, Larkin to NAU, and Rylee Penn to Louisville.

I also understand they now have to sit out a year, but I'm curious if they don't find some loophole on this. Frias just sat out outdoor already.

Frias wouldn’t have to sit if she decides to go somewhere else. Unless she took summer classes, she never matriculated at UCLA.

Waivers only available for mental health issues in this circumstance (multi transfer - MT). Check with your compliance officer. That is what she/he will tell you.

Pretty sure those have been in the works for awhile but just now being made public.. Just because its only recently announced on Instagram doesn't mean its not been arranged for quite some time. I personally know of one transfer who has moved onto campus and is training w a team already and it hasn't made the news on here yet.

Matriculated means to enroll, not to take classes. There is no way that we are in August and Frias hasn't enrolled already.

Having said that, if Frias does decide to transfer, and I'm not sure that she will, she will probably file an appeal if she is told she can't run for a year.

In the works for awhile is exactly the tampering issue, as they only recently went in the portal.

I meant a few weeks or however long the UNM runner has been in the portal... wasn't meaning tampering in these specific instances.

Brosnan was clearly talking to them before they were in the portal. That's an established fact by now. It's not hard to delete messages so the NCAA can't find the violations.

McDonnell was probably texting Frias and Barnett because Brosnan told her to (which is also a violation).

But if I have 4 offers of a partial scholarship and 1 offer of a full scholarship, I might lean to accepting the full offer.

Have you no experience with NIL? Contractually the NIL can follow the athlete, per clause, to any school.
