eh, they were so far ahead of the next finisher that it didn't impact the results. easy to virtue signal sportsmanship when there's no downside whatsoever - and even if they would have lost places, the imagery from helping a competitor finish is going to be far more memorable than how you placed in a meaningless early season invitational.
Olds had a funny quote in another article I saw, "I hope that people can take away from this that being a good person will always be more valuable than being on a podium"...sure dude, you were still on the podium. Let's see if you still do this when it would cost you a top position at state.
To be clear, what Erickson and Olds did absolutely was a nice gesture, but the "omg amazing sportsmanship!!!" reaction to it is a bit over the top given the full context.

This morning saw Madison West's Truman White get DQ'd for a hard celebration after a finish. Sad! passionate guys like Truman are good for the sport. Madison west still came away with a perfect score on the JV side and another win on the varsity side.
