15:25:03 For The Win!! Valbymania is Real and only just beginning!!!
Valby just nips Chelangat in 15:23, Olemomoi 3rd.
Anyone know the conditions for this race?
She looked winded and has a bit of a hitch in her stride. Had a decent kick but she runs from the front early and does way more work than she has to.
Just Win!!!
AccuWeather says 78 degrees, 81% humidity

Because she's a pimp.
Valby, as you may know, didn't run NCAA indoors and didn't race outdoors until April 28. She just gave ESPN's John Anderson a health update.
"We actually don't really have a diagnosis of the injury yet, it's been 3 or 4 months now. But we found little injuries that are like -- I've seen so many doctors. But basically, yeah, we don't have a diagnosis. It's a lot to unpack. Too short a video for that.
"Definitely very uncertain. I've done one track workout since February. So I had no idea if my leg was going to hold up or not. This was my first time wearing spikes since, I think, cross country -- no, my one indoor race, I wore spikes, didn't go too hot. But basically, yeah, I didn't know what to expect. I knew that my team needed me so I'm glad I could push myself to score those points for my team."
Did Valby really say that she still hasn't diagnosed her injury after seeing many doctors? Wow. Only her 2nd time wearing spikes since Cross Country & she's only done 1 track workout.
Very happy Valby got the win over formidable competition! That said, I’m concerned her coaches rushed her back from injury too soon. She appeared to be limping during the race. It was uncomfortable to watch. Valby has a ton of talent and heart. I really hope her coaches have her long term development in mind.
Congrats on the SEC championship, but she might not get top three at NCAA. Forget Katelyn who is 20 seconds faster than she is now. I do not see her beating the Utah runners or Kemboi with this tactic of gunning from the front from the start of the race. Katelyn would have just chilled with the Alabama runners then gradually kicked in the final 1200m. Valby creates much more effort for herself than she needs because she does not run with any tactics.
Nothing stops Valby: 80 degrees, 74% humidity, dew point 71 degrees = 15:25.03 SEC Champion. Bring on the heat and humidity of Jacksonville and Austin. If Austin is an oven in four weeks, I expect Valby will win the 5000 regardless of who is running it.

Poor long-term thinking. Valbymania will be short-lived.
She looks injured in her stride. There is just no reason to rush her back. You can see it.
With a bum leg?
