As a person who came into the sport of running as an adult, but grew up as a competitive freestyle skier, this subculture of runners who poise to hate technology and progression in the sport is both alien and comical to me. Ski and snowboard technology (advancements in equipment, grooming, terrain parks, and access to backcountry terrain) has progressed so much since I was actively competing in the early 00's – everyday kids today are doing things we didn't imagine was possible... Comparable to if average high school kids started running sub-13 5ks every weekend, and pros were going under 11 minutes on the reg.
There is no one in skiing who pretends that things were better with skinny, 210cm slabs on their feet while wearing trash-bag 1st generation gore-tex.
