In the sad but real era of the NIL and immediate transfer, there are Booster (wealthy alums) driven NILs going to men's football and basketball recruits.
An astute athletic director could finesse one of these deals for the right athlete on an NCAA champion team. So for spring '23 she pays tuition, but gets booster NIL equivalent. In Fall '23 she transitions to scholarship.
you're only even assuming yourself....just because they r in the rooster doesnt mean they alll have a full ride ..
what?? i dont even understand what you are trying to say. I don't assume to know who has what at nc state. no I would never assume they "allll" have a full ride. That would not be reality. Just trying to explain to you how scholarships tend to work in general... i know athletes on some very high achieving teams who score for the team but aren't on athletic scholarship $$ , or barely any,- there just isn't enough for everyone. especially if the $ goes to track evenly and isn't given to distance only.
try and listen and learn and not just always be argumentative...

you said nc state lacked money ..ummmm
their line up is fewer than last year XC, so many graduates and in track... at least 5 graduated and transferred to another school,,, most their scholarships go to the distance crew....they can afford even 4
Who are these runners that you believe are on NIL deals?
I don't know of any runners on a 'booster NIL', but I know a bunch of men's and women's bball players and football players who have them. Duke, UNC and NC st are quite active in this regard, as they all compete for the same pool of athletes.
I imagine this conversation:
athletic director: Heh Jimbob, ya know that pile of NIL money y'all put together for the hoops recruits?
Jimbob: yupp
ad: Well we have a once in a decade chance to pick up a transfer runner from 'bama that will pretty much lock up another NCAA championship for us in women's xc. Think we could scoop off a little of that fund to tide her over til we can line up a scholly for her.
Jimbob: Good one, tide her over! I hate the tide. Sure, what do y'all need?
Ad: $30k should do it and it's only a one off. Tell ya what, I'll even move your football season tix up a few rows for next yr.
Jimbob: ok, see if you can move my parking pass to lot C, too. Will I see you for lunch and golf at the club Thusday?
Ad: you betcha, wouldn't miss it. Thanks man, you're the best. Howdy to the missus.
Jimbob: Thank you, now only if we could find a new quarterback!

not what I said or meant, but I know reading comprehension can be tough sometimes.
best of luck to Amaris wherever she ends up and hopefully she gets the $ she deserves. She seems like a great person and athlete.
Tyynismaa is one of my favorite NCAA runners but if she joins NC State I will no longer be a fan. I can't help but lose respect when someone says "if you can't beat them, join them" because it doesn't show a competitive instinct.
Her team just placed 3rd at NCAAs. Go out and EARN a team championship, don't take the easy road. Have some loyalty to Alabama, be a captain and a leader. Or join another team on the cusp like Oklahoma State or New Mexico and try to knock out the champions.
This seems like tampering by NC State up in Boston, betrayal of Alabama and her home state, and of cowardice.

why should Tyynismaa show loyalty when her coach just bailed on her to go coach another team in the same conference?
What upset him was not that she is leaving Alabama (like you said, the coach bails but she is supposed to stay?). It is that she is apparently leaving for NCSt. Notice that New Mexico or Okla St would have been fine.
Alabama lost its coach, Chelangat no longer has XC eligibility and their fifth placed runner already transferred. Sounds like sour grapes.
So when the school that took you from nothing to one of the best in the country needs your help, you abandon them? She improved 30 seconds in the mile, more than 60 seconds in the 3k and about 90 seconds in the 5k (running it last outdoors right after her injury). Shame on them because they had planned to peak their team for Tyynismaa's true senior year instead of her 5th or 6th year? Even though only their #4 and their #7 were leaving?
They still have a lot of great runners and probably have more kenyan transfers lined up. They should have been top 5 next year without Mercy, even before considering potential transfers or incoming freshmen. They had 3 of the top 14 in the nation returning. McDonnell was actually their #7.
She was going to get into the Alabama hall of fame, but now will not. Instead she is in the hall of SHAME.
