I call it a very tenuous coincidence. The attorney abducted by Abston back in 2000, Kemper Durand later worked for a firm that one of Eliza Fletcher's uncles worked for. Durand was a U.S. Attorney at the time he was abducted. The crime against Eliza Fletcher was likely a matter of spontaneous instigation by Abston, he was known for propositioning women incessantly around his neighborhood, asking for sex in return for giving them $100. When he saw Eliza running by in her jogging bra and running shorts alone, his impulses took a very violent turn. Her shorts were found in a trash bag some distance away from where her body was located. I anticipate the medical examiner will find evidence of sexual assault/rape.
Dude- you are so freakin' racist. One of your first thoughts to this tragedy is the check which media sources are showing the criminal's picture because he's black.
There have been other cases in Shelby County, Tennessee where a female jogger was attacked, abducted and murdered by a man in a vehicle. In 1985, 19 year old Marine Lance Corporal Suzanne Marie Collins was accosted on the NAS Memphis base in Millington by Sedley Alley and subsequently murdered. Truly a brutal case. Alley was convicted of the murder and eventually executed for it in 2006.

Tennessee has had a number of bad murders.
The murders of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom is probably the most horrific murder that I have ever read about (and I have read about some really gruesome murders). What those animals (and they are animals) did to Channon Christian is beyond belief. Here is the case but please don't check out if you are not ready for some very bad stuff.
Channon Gail Christian, aged 21, and Hugh Christopher Newsom Jr., aged 23, were from Knoxville, Tennessee. They were kidnapped on the evening of January 6, 2007, when Christian's vehicle was carjacked. The couple were taken t...
What a sad story. I was hoping Eliza would be found alive. It looks like the perpetrator abducted someone else in the past and served 20 years for it. Crazy that he did it again.
There is a new law recently signed in Tenn. which would have kept Abston in prison after his first conviction for kidnapping if it had been in effect back in 2000. The new law does not allow for early release in cases where the perpetrator has committed certain offenses, like especially aggravated kidnapping which he was convicted of back in 2000.
In other news, CNN has a few articles on the high-profile case but refuses to post a pic of Abston. Instead it only posts each time a pic of the victim with a big smile.
I did a search on MSNBC for Cleotha Abston and that, not surprisingly, came up empty. Just imagine if the murderer had been white and the pretty jogger had been black.
The Uvalde Texas school shooter's pic has never been shown on CNN or MSNBC.

What happened is tragic...let's focus on that and not the race of the perpetrator.

Really?
And.... if the situation were reversed... you would White Knight yourself to death talking about how racist the South is.

Why are white people so obsessed with that case ? Of course it was horrendous, but there have been , sadly, 100's and 100's and 100's of other horrendous murders in this country over the last many decades. Of course the reason for the obsession and CONSTANT bringing it up is: BLACK people did the horrendous acts to WHITE people. And that is whites are obsessed with it.
The Cheshire, Connecticut, home invasion murders occurred on July 23, 2007, when Joshua Komisarjevsky and Steven Hayes invaded the residence of the Petit family in Cheshire, Connecticut, United States. Dr. William Petit was s...
Oh right, white people did the awful crimes, so....meh.
Or constantly bring up all of the awful crimes of the multitude of proflic white serial killers, like, I dunno, BTK? Whaddya think about what he did to children and entire families?
Or the countless number of white pedophiles who have abused, raped, kidnapped and [ in some cases] killed children?
Meh?
But a BLACK person commits a horrendous crime against a white person and it's: ' let's never forget, these black people are ANIMALS! THIS crimes is worse than all the rest and therefore proves it!' Um, nope. White people have REGULARLY committed equally awful crimes.
It proves nothing, except.... that you are a racist for thinking it worse than all the others.
While reading about this case I thought about the SOS (emergency) feature in Apple watches. Has this feature ever been used to save someone in a situation like this? I found one case where it helped someone who fell into an icy river but that is about it. I wonder if this could be updated to be constantly listening like an Amazon device? Giving up privacy but still.
Nobody said Black People Are Animals, but this guy is, there are obviously plenty of horrible people that are Latin, White, blah blah blah... this guy happens to be black.
Apparently the suspected killer had committed another rape in 2021 after his 2020 release but a rape kit bungling gave him a get out of jail free card.
