I think they put a lot of charity runners in well before 9 a.m. because there are lots of slow people you pass in the course of wave 1 who obviously didn't get to those spots by running faster than you. I don't find it surprising at all for a type A woman who is slim and young enough to break 4.

Because sometimes people using their freedom of speech need to know that they're wrong. It's not a 1st Amendment thing. Say whatever you want. But also try to think first if you're speaking in a public place.

& the hypocrisy here is astounding. LRC moderates based on this to allow horrible things to get said when they could actually be moderating these forums. They can/should create the kind of website that reflects this community when, instead, it's a breeding ground for the alt-right of the running community.

Obviously you’ve given this thought so I won’t insult you by trying to change your mind about progressives. However, please consider other international and global threats as possibly equal or greater a risk than what you think the Dems may do to our country. Economic, biological, nuclear attacks. China, Russia, North Korea. Power grid failure, super volcano, solar flare, disease, climate change (if you believe in it). In my view dems/progs have a vision for America that not everyone’s going to love but the US also has legit enemies that would happily destroy us outright.

I love this. Where I live I encounter a lot of people whose political views have become so rigid that they lack the perspective to put them aside like this. Totally agree that sub 4 for anyone is a great accomplishment regardless of your last name.

Side note, but why are so many people bent out of shape if somebody wants to run a race anonymously. I can buy ice cream for cash without disclosing my name. Imagine if the local ice cream shop not only required that you tell them your name, but they also posted the list of people who frequented their establishment on a given day, and what flavors they got.

It is interesting so many posters think it is unbelievable that Chelsea ran a 4 hour marathon. I don't want to take away from the accomplishment but someone who is relatively fit and undergoes a decent training plan can easily achieve a 4 hour marathon. Now if it was 3 hours or less that would be quite the accomplishment but again there's no reason why that wouldn't be possible for a healthy 41 year old.

My old CEO was in his early 40s and pretty out of shape, I doubt he would have come close to breaking 30 minutes in a flat 5K when he decided to do the escape from alcatraz and did the whole team in training thing and finished with a respectable time of 3 hours and got pretty ripped in the process. He later ran a 1:47 Half Marathon at age 49. Especially for the type A personalities who are goal oriented I don't think this should be a surprise.

Side note, I once danced with Chelsea Clinton when she was looking at colleges her senior year in High School. I had arrived at a university sponsored party on the earlier side and then there's this young women and I remember telling my friend wow that looks like Chelsea Clinton and he's like dude that is Chelsea. Later when I left the party i saw there was police blocking off the street and what I now know to be Secret Service agents at the front of the building.

Of course there's a legit security issue. Someone started a thread to investigate whether she could even run a marathon sub-4, and people have been rabid about her and her family for years.

Honestly, how could you think, given the crazy conspiracy theories that have been spawned about this political family, that it would be a good idea for them to publicize her name and number before the race so that people could exactly track her every mile on the course for four hours in a city passing tens or hundreds of thousands of people? They did exactly the right thing and congrats to her on what is a pretty tough feat as a W41. By the way, in 1983, the most competitive ever NYC marathon in depth, her time would have placed her as 110th/295 in her age group (that year, there were fewer than 3,000 female finishers and 12,000+ male finishers).

9 minute pace for a marathon is terrible. This is totally believable that a non-runner can do this with some training.
